CHAPTER 3: STINKY BUS EXPRESS

"THE ORACLE had confirmed what we expected, that this quest will proceed toward the Underworld, where you will confront the god who has rebelled against his brothers, Hades. The entrance to Hades' domain lies under the city of Los Angeles. This is where you will journey to. Time is short." Chiron explained to Percy. "I have selected our most compelling candidates, from which you will choose three to join you on this quest and ensure that we succeed." Chiron finished, gesturing to the head counselors of the twelve cabins.

"Magnolia." Percy told Chiron without hesitation, causing both Chiron and Magnolia to look at him confused.

"Customarily, one waits to at least hear a name of two before choosing. Are you sure you don't want to hear more?" Chiron asked Percy.

"This thing, Zeus' master bolt, we need to get it back, right?" Percy asked Chiron.

"Yes." he replied.

"And it's gonna be hard to get, yes?" Percy asked.

"Extraordinarily." Chiron replied.

"And if the mission required someone to push me down a flight of stairs for it to succeed, you'd want someone who won't hesitate when they do it." Percy explained.

"The first quest-mate shall be, Magnolia Dove!" Chiron announced before looking at Percy for his second choice.

"Annabeth." Percy told Chiron without hesitation and the two girls chosen smiled at each other, knowing they wouldn't be alone regardless of what happened on the quest.

Magnolia walked into Percy's cabin to see him talking to Luke, who smiled and gave a quick goodbye to Percy before walking out, Magnolia walking in and going over to sit next to Percy. "What do we have?" she asked him.

"Some weird coins. I thought they were Chuck E Cheese but Luke said that they were Drachmas." Percy explained.

"What's Chuck E Cheese?" Magnolia asked, looking up over her shoulder to see Percy fiddling around with a plastic bag.

"You've never been to Chuck E Cheese?" Percy asked, louder than Magnolia had expected. She blocked her ears and just shook her head.

"I'm sorry." Percy muttered, grabbing his bag and sitting down next to her as she uncovered her ears.

"It's okay. Just unexpected." Magnolia replied, shrugging it off as she handed the shoes back.

"I could take you to Chuck E Cheese maybe? After this quest is over?" Percy asked as he packed the snacks Chiron gave him.

Magnolia smiled at him and nodded. "Yeah." she answered.

"Okay." Percy replied softly, smiling at her as she got up and left to go check up on Annabeth.

"She's really gonna miss that tree, huh?" Percy asked Magnolia and Grover while they were waiting for Annabeth to say goodbye.

"When Annabeth first arrived here with Thalia and Luke, they were being chased by monsters. Agents of Hades, Sisters." Grover explained.
