CHAPTER 18: THE (NOT) GENTLEMAN

"YEAH, GO go!" Percy yelled out, the four of them getting chased by the three-headed dog.

Grover got eaten and while Magnolia and Percy were mourning him, Annabeth formed a plan. "Percy! You and M go that way!" she called out, pointing in a direction before she ran in the opposite direction.

Percy uncapped Riptide, ready to defend, but he didn't have to. Annabeth soon revealed herself scratching Cerberus behind the ear to calm him down and eventually send him to sleep. Grover could get himself free, but not without being covered in snot and saliva from the dog. 

"Grover! Are you okay?" Magnolia asked, rushing over from behind Percy and helping the satyr up. She grimaced at the snot and saliva on Grover and she mentally cursed herself for being so helpful. 

"You... are a bad... bad dog!" Grover complained. 

"Guys! I can't hold this forever," Annabeth called out, still clinging to the dog and soothing it. 

"Can you fly us up there with your shoes?" Percy asked Grover. Both Magnolia suddenly realised the height of the wall and shook their heads.

"M, Grover, You can do this, one at a time. Take Percy first," Annabeth explained. 

"But what about you, Annabeth?" Magnolia asked. 

"I'll meet you guys up there! Now go!" the daughter of Athena called out, straining to stay on Cerberus. 

"Maia," Grover spoke, taking Percy up first before Magnolia. 

"You okay?" Percy asked as soon as the girl landed on top. 

"I feel like I'm gonna be sick," Magnolia replied. 

"You'll be okay, come on, Lia," Percy reassured softly, helping her stand up. 

Suddenly, the toy ball got thrown up, Magnolia catching it with one hand. "Good job," Percy complimented softly,

"Thanks," she replied, giving him a small smile before turning back to the fog, waiting for Annabeth. 

The dog jumped up, attempting to get the ball from Magnolia but she was pulled back out of reach by Percy. 

"Guys?" Annabeth called out. 

The kids rushed over and leaned down, Percy and Grover helping the girl up and over the wall. 

"Excuse me," Annabeth mumbled, taking the ball out of Magnolia's extended hand and throwing it away, letting Cerberus chase it. 

"Wow. That was really... I mean, how did you..." Grover asked, trailing off. 

"My father had a dog when I was little. I guess I remember the tricks," Annabeth explained, Magnolia, wrapping an arm around her best friend's shoulders to comfort her. 

"Oh, wow," Percy piped up, staring into the distance and spotting Hades's palace. "Look at that." 

"Hades's palace," Annabeth confirmed softly, Magnolia and her coming up and standing beside Percy. "That's where he'll be keeping the master bolt and your mom," Annabeth explained to the boy. 

"Oh, no," Grover piped up from behind them.  

"What?? Magnolia asked.

"My pearl. I lost the pearl. I think it's... It's in the dog," Grover explained.
