CHAPTER 16: STAB IN THE HEART

ALL OF the horns honking and the screeching of animals made Magnolia get her possibly third migraine of the quest so she blocked her ears and looped her arm through Annabeth while Percy and Grover talked. "All good?" Annabeth whispered to the girl who nodded.

"I just don't trust myself not to get lost," Magnolia whispered, looking back at the scene of animals and annoyed drivers.

"This seems dangerous," Percy commented to Grover.

"Oh, they'll be totally fine. I gave them a satyr's blessing so they'll be able to reach the wilderness-" Grover reassured.

"I meant for the people," Percy interrupted.

"Oh, them," Grover replied, the group not peeling their eyes away from the dangerous scene. "Well, I mean I'm sure they'll-" he paused, seeing Magnolia and Percy's hesitant look at him.

"Yeah, I don't know. But the animals are all set." Grover reassured.

Demigods can't keep it in their pants anyway. Magnolia thought. She wanted to say it out loud, but her mother might punish her cruelly.

"Okay, Come on. Before the cops show up," Annabeth told them, looking around for the Lotus Hotel.

"So, how do we know which hotel is the Lotus?" Percy asked.

"I'm guessing the one with the weird flower on it," Magnolia replied softly, pointing to the hotel with the lotus-shaped design.

"You were only a few seconds ahead of me, M. Sometimes, it might be okay to let the easy ones go. Wanna try it?" Percy asked her, the girl shaking her head as they walked in.

"Not happening, Percy!"

The kids walked in and Magnolia instantly blocked her ears, hating all the sensory processing she had to do. "I know we're supposed to be saving the world, but would it be unprofessional if we just hung out here for a bit?" Percy asked.

Am I the only one seeing these flashing lights and hearing the loud music? Magnolia thought. It was times like these that she hated her brain for what it was.

"We find Hermes, we get him to hook us up with a ride to Los Angeles and a plan to get into the Underworld, and we are out of here ten seconds later," Annabeth reiterated to Percy.

"Annabeth it took you ten seconds to say that-" Magnolia commented,

"It's a metaphor, M," the girl explained.

"I was kidding," Percy replied bluntly, Magnolia looking up at him confused. Sure you were. She thought.

Percy took Magnolia's hand, Grover reaching his arm out in front of them. "Hang on," he told them.

"What's wrong?" Magnolia asked, peeking past Percy's shoulder to see Grover.

"Your mom told you all the stories." Grover reminded Percy. "Did she read you the Odyssey?" he asked.

"The graphic novel," Percy replied, earning a confused look from Annabeth. "It counts," he replied.

"Odysseus lands on a beach. There's these guys who've forgotten where they came from, forgot everything that was important to them, and they got that way because they ate..." Grover began.
