10. Good Friends

I checked my email and noticed a letter from one of the clients denoting the acceptance of my proposal about a solution for an integrated project management platform. 'Thank God! Yes!' I said it happily. I called the company to discuss the case and set an appointment. Also, I downloaded the prepared draft by Jane. After having lunch, I got ready to go to McJ bookstore.

It was 4:30 when I got there and saw Jane reading a book. She always makes me smile when I look at her busy with reading and checking the books. I forgot to mention the fact that both of us are book worms! I made my way towards her with a smile and she noticed me finally!

"Hey! You're on time!" She said with a big smile on her face.

'Hey! Yes, like always. How's it going?'

"Fine, thanks. And you?"

'Fine, thanks. Do you suggest this book?'

"Well, yeah, I guess."

'Let me see.'

"Wait, did you bring the draft with you?"

'Yep!'

"Great. Then, you can have this book."

'Merci beaucoup!'

We searched through the books and discussed the new ones, then decided to buy some books.
After that, we sat in a more quiet space and she asked me: "Did you check the draft out?"

'Yeah, here's the revised one.'

She began reviewing the draft carefully while I decided to go and grab two coffees. When I sat in front of her, I could sense how I was eager to tell her about the proposal's acceptance. After a considerable time, she said: "I guess it's the final draft. It sounds you completed the documents."

'Really? Incredible!'

"Yeah, wait, your eyes sparkle. There's something you want to tell me. Am I right?"

I laughed and nodded. She drank her coffee and looked at me with a smile to say something.

'You're right like always. Well, that company has accepted my proposal. Do you remember the project?'

"Yes. Congrats! I'm so happy for you."

'Thanks. The appointment is set for the Wednesday. Can you come with me?'

"Why would you want me to come with you?"

'Because I'm asking you to be part of the team. Then, we can lead the project together. Would you please accept this offer?' I showed her a big smile waiting for her reply. She was surprised by this unexpected request.

"I accept your offer because you asked me politely and nicely!" She said it in a playful manner.

'Thanks for accepting to be part of the team and making me happy. Do you know you're amazing?'

"I always make you happy. And yes, I know it! But please don't forget to tell me about the details and everything."

'Sure. And don't forget that you're my hero!'

"Nice compliment. Like it. And you're my Lilo!" She was like this smiley: :))))))) !

'Where did you evolve this character from?!'

"You!" She said it with a smile and looked me in the eyes with a victory pose as if she had won the debate.

'Great! You always have something to say to save yourself.'

"'Cause I'm smart. You know it well!"

'Yeah, very well... Do you have time to discuss the project at my home?'

"Yes, sure. But on one condition..."

'What condition?'

"Spilling the beans!"

'Oh my God! Jane!'

She laughed and I was seeing her enjoying shocking me with bringing up the beans again.

"What?! You're hiding sth. from me."

'I know!'

"Of course you know! Then, tell me everything. I can't stand secrets. You know it."

'God! Look, I wish I could tell you but I've promised someone to keep it as a secret.'

"I'm not included in your promise! I'm your bestie. Tell me!"

'Jane!'

"I'm all ears, Aurora. Tell me." She said it with a big smile while placing her chin on the palms of her hands.

'Ok. I tell you about the parts that I'm allowed to.'

"Great. Now, we're on good terms."

'Yes, obviously!'

"Then, let's go."

'Where?!'

"Your home."

'Sure. Let's go.'

We got a cab to get home. I could feel that my mind was busy, like in the background process, trying to assess the parts that could be told about him. Clearly, I was nervous on the way back home and Jane sensed it. She smiled, winked and then said: "Don't worry. I respect your promise. I was trying to challenge you to see how this secret has affected you."

'What do you mean?'

"Well, it seems this secret has filled your heart enough to make your eyes sparkle and cheeks red. In other words, you try your best to act normal while you clearly can't."

'You better change your job and be the second Miss Marple!'

"Sounds great to me at the moment!"

'Yeah, I see!'

"Let's open one of the new books and read it."

'Good idea.'

We chose a book and started reading the first page. It was nice to read with Jane. It is always nice to read books with her. We've had this habit for a long time.
The first verse was saying:
'Being with the true and honest souls can heal our pains and lead us to a better light and place.'

We both agreed upon this truth. In fact, she is a true and honest soul to me. I hope I can be this kind of soul for her, too. I want to be this soul for her, too. Do you know why? Because we are good friends.
