"Look at that."Taehyung pointed up at the black smoke rising in the sky. The cloud of smoke was black against the pastel blue sky and big enough to capture their attention. It looked like something was burning in the woods a few kilometers away and judging from how much smoke there was, it was something big.
Jungkook stared at the smoke as he continued to walk along the train tracks by Taehyung's side, "What do you think caused it?" He questioned dubiously, a bit worried about the smoke attracting walkers.
Taehyung lifted his hand to his eyes and continued to stare, "Looks like it's something big, maybe a house? Summer's also approaching, light could've reflected off broken glass shards and created the fire. Hopefully, it won't burn the forest down." He murmured the last part and finally dropped his focus back on the road ahead.
Jungkook's eyes lingered on the smoke, "Do you think we should check it out?"
"No." Taehyung immediately shook his head, "The fire probably attracted a bunch of walkers and if someone set something on fire, it doesn't mean it's our group."
"Could be them though, maybe they wanted to catch our attention?" Jungkook mumbled - steps slowing so that he could stare at the smoke without worrying about tripping on the tracks.
Taehyung also stopped and turned around to face Jungkook, "We don't know if it's them, could be someone who wants to lure us in and take our shit. The better option is to keep moving and reach terminus." Taehyung saw that his words didn't fully convince Jungkook and so he took hold of Jungkook's forearm and tugged him forward to keep walking, "Jungkook, I understand that you don't want to wait to meet them but right now the smartest thing to do is to wait a little longer until we reach terminus. If they were there there's no guarantee that they're still there. The fire probably attracted a horde, so they probably left. All we can do at the moment is hope they see the sign we saw and head to terminus, if not, we can return."
"Right." Jungkook sighed and continued to walk, purposefully ignoring the smoke so that he wouldn't think about who could be there.
"God, I'm tired of walking though." Taehyung complained, trying to keep his mind off the ache in his ankles and thighs, and his chafed feet. They had been walking non-stop since they parted with the other group - on one hand they wanted to reach terminus sooner while on the other hand, they wanted to create as much distance between the other group as they could.
Taehyung knew that Jungkook was tired too, not only based on the constant walking and the weight of the bags on their shoulders but also from not having enough rest and worrying about their supplies. The water was the quickest to go and they already left the tracks once to try to find a pond or a river to refill their bottles. They still had food and they tried to ration it to the best of their abilities but with them constantly pouring their energy into fighting walkers and walking, their stomachs were quicker to digest the food. The supplies were dwindling and with nothing but trees in sight, they couldn't help but worry.
