The conversation with Jungkook had eased some tension between the pair and while they still weren't on the terms of braiding each other's hair and sharing a jail cell, it was an improvement. Jungkook no longer avoided his eyes when they looked at each other, even offered him a nod and hesitant smile, they even shared a few conversations and went out to hunt together.
The group was less tense around them too - knowing they weren't about to witness an argument between them when their paths collided. Yet the growing hope of fixing their relationship was easily swept under the rug once reality reeled around the corner and smacked them with a deadly virus spreading across the prison.
Taehyung wasn't stupid, he knew that it wouldn't end with only two of the prisoners getting infected and then the virus dying out. He was certain that with each passing second more and more prisoners were getting infected, and they still didn't have a cure or any knowledge of the virus. It was hard to quarantine the sick too, while there was a quarantine zone in Cell block A, it didn't help much - judging by more sick people going into the cell and not coming back out. But at least it's something and it counts.
Hence why Taehyung wasn't particularly pleased when Jungkook volunteered to go help Daryl bury the dead bodies that could possibly be double infected.
Taehyung's gaze stayed glued on Jungkook, watching him wrap a weapon belt around his narrow waist and strap weapons to it. A bag of peanuts was grasped between Taehyung's long fingers and his mouth moved up and down as he chewed. His fingers dipped into the bag and pulled out a handful, he raised his hand up to his mouth and dropped them into his mouth.
The taste of saltiness with a hint of garlic exploded in his mouth, the garlic powder on the peanuts nipped at his taste buds, only to be soothed by the earthy flavour of the nuts. Taehyung sat on top of a metal table with his feet rooted on the bench, his eyes squinted and never left Jungkook, yet the younger purposefully avoided looking at him.
Taehyung had enough of the silence, "So you developed a death-wish while I was gone?" Taehyung teased in Korean, yet there was a sharp edge to his words that made Jungkook's head swing up and eyes narrow.
The younger quirked a brow and dipped his tongue out to lick at his lips, "Why is that?" He asked with a tinge of confusion and defensiveness, glancing at the few people lounging around the main room, including Michonne who was getting her leg patched up.
During the virus attack, Michonne was about to leave the prison to head out and look for more supplies - an excuse she used when she went out to look for the governor. She had just about exited the gate when the first gunshots went off, unfortunately, the gates had already been closed, which led to Michonne hopping off of her horse and fighting against the walkers following her to the gate. Michonne killed them both successfully but got injured in the process by falling and twisting her leg.
"Oh, I don't know." Taehyung huffed out a small chuckle, peering into the bag of peanuts before raising it up to his lips and pouring some into his mouth. His lips curved into a sarcastic smile and head tilted to the side as he twisted around to face Jungkook, "Maybe it's the fact that you're going to bury dead people that have been infected by a disease that killed them."
