Ronan's Pov.
After being booked I decide I should probably call Evie to come and get me but after thinking further I decide maybe I should call Cassia instead. I have a feeling she will be kinder to me than Evie would. I go over to the phone and dial Cassia's number. It's pretty late so I hope she isn't angry with me. It rings twice before someone picks up.
"Ronan...what's wrong? Are you okay?" A very sleepy yet extremely worried Cassia says on the other line. I instantly feel a little guilt for worrying her. Though I'll take her concern over Evie's annoyance any day.
"Hey.. so I'm at the county jail right now.. I really don't want to talk about it over the phone right now, but can you come pick me up? I'm really sorry I was gonna call Evie but with everything going on.. she'll just be annoyed." I ramble out nervously.
"Of course, I'll be there right away. See you soon Ronan" she says in a reassuring voice before hanging up on me. It seems like it only takes a few minutes before I am being let out and told that someone is here to get me. I walk out to see Cassia anxiously waiting for me. Her blond hair is in two Dutch braids that reach down to her mid back. She is wearing an oversized white t-shirt with some inspirational quote on it in very Cassia fashion and some pink biker shorts. She is wearing pink slides on her feet. I can tell that she rolled right out of bed and rushed over here after my phone call. I think this might be the first time that I've ever seen her without makeup on because I notice that her face is actually adorably speckled with freckles. They're actually quite adorable....adorable? I shouldn't be thinking that Cassia is adorable, high or not. She sees me walking towards her and gives me a big smile that doesn't quite meet her ocean blue eyes. I can tell she is still worrying.
"I am glad you're okay" she says giving me a hug and for once I welcome it hugging her back warmly mostly because I feel like she could use the hug.
"We should get going before they decide to keep you all night" she teases me quietly before pulling away from the hug and walking me out to her car. Once we are in the car she starts driving not pestering me with questions just falling into a comfortable silence. I can tell she is waiting for me to be ready to open up about what lead to her picking me up from a jail cell.
"So.. I'm sure you can smell the major reason I got locked up." I say not really sure how to start but keep the conversation from being too heavy.
"What there is a smell? I hadn't notice honestly thought maybe you were just trying out a new cologne" she says in a light tone glancing at me before looking back at the road. "So you were smoking? That's not exactly illegal here though, unless you were selling without a license...or driving with it...." she adds slightly more seriously but there isn't a hint of judgement in her voice.
"I was just trying to get away from Connor.." I say sighing. "I needed a smoke break and he followed me before I could finish." Cassia glances at me again her eyes unreadable in second before she looks back at the road.
"I am sorry you didn't get the break you wanted because of him. Though maybe next time you need a break instead of driving under the influence there maybe a 5'8 blonde girl with a pink car whose number you happen to know that might be willing to come and get you no questions asked or judgement given" she says offering a smile at me.
"God I appreciate you so much Cassia. Seriously.." I say sighing. "I know it was stupid and you know you can always call me for that ride too right?"
Cassia's pov.
I feel myself blush a little at Ronan's word and I am not sure why. I just about had a heart attack when Ronan called me telling me I needed to pick him up and I won't say I am not worried about his DUI behavior but I am hoping maybe this is the key to the missing puzzle as to why he died. If I can stop him from driving under the influence maybe he will be safe. Maybe I can rest easily.
"Of course Ronan, we are friends after all" I say smiling genuinely. I arrive at his house about this time and park my car in the front. There is a big part of me that doesn't want Ronan to go inside especially because I've had nothing but nightmares since I came back to save him of something terrible happening. Maybe that will lighten up now that I have made progress in keeping him safe. Ronan looks at me for a long moment instead of getting out.
"Hey you've got that look on your face again. What's going on Cassia?" He asks. I sigh. What do I say? Sorry Ronan I can't stop imagining you dying in terrible ways?
"Honestly I've just been struggling with my anxiety and having nightmares lately. I'll be okay though" I say technically being honest with him just leaving out the source of it all. Ronan looks at me with sympathetic eyes and puts his hand on my own for a moment which I only noticed was shaking. I guess I am stressing out over this whole thing more than I thought. Then again I dare anyone else to handle the fate of someone's literal life hanging in their hands.
"I know you've never really tried it, but if you ever wanted to smoke in a safe environment where you know no one's going to fuck with or take advantage of you, you know you can always smoke with me right?" He asks kind of hesitantly.
"Thank you...I might just take you up on that offer sometime...." I say giving a small smile to him.
"There's no pressure, it just helps me so I always like to let people know they have a safe place with me. Thank you for the ride, I appreciate it." he says while opening the door. He goes into his house after saying a quick goodbye. I head back to the apartment.
"What were you doing out so late" Evie asks sitting in the living room with Greyson her not official yet boyfriend.
"I had a friend who needed a ride home" I say casually leaving out the part where the said person is her brother and head back to my bed.
I wake up the next morning at 12:30 pm and sigh. I don't have classes today but maybe I can hang out with Ronan or something and study.
'Hey, wanna meet up to study today? ☺️' I text Ronan.
'Sure, studying is probably a good idea 😂' he responds rather quickly.
