Chapter 13: Time Can't Stop Me

Ronan's Pov.

We ended up taking Cassia to the hospital after the cops came because Connor confessed to me that he drugged her and then tried to take advantage of her. Also to make sure she is okay because he beat on her pretty hard while he was struggling with her. She fought him really well though because he was just as banged up as her if not more. Evie and I agreed that it would be better this morning if she talked to Cassia when she woke up rather than me doing it. So I stepped out to eat and go to the hospital gift shop to see if I could find anything for her.

I end up seeing a very cute white bunny plush with big ears and a pink ribbon around its neck that kind of gives off a Cassia vibe. I get it for her hoping it will cheer her up then I go sit in the chair outside Cassia's door waiting for when Evie is done. One of the nurses comes over to me while I am sitting there.

"Hey, we can discharge Cassia soon but I wanted to talk to you quickly about a concern we had. She only weighs 90lbs which means she is underweight in a scary way. We can't keep her here but something needs to happen because that is a dangerously low weight for a girl of her age and height." The nurse says looking at me seriously. I nod not really surprised that Cassia is under weight but surprised it is as bad as it is. She kept promising me she was fine and not to worry about her. Well she is not going to get away with being nonchalant about things anymore. I couldn't live with myself if something happens to her. I am already beating myself up for leaving her side at that party.

I decide that there has probably been enough time for the girls so I knock on the door and Evie lets me in. I look over at Cassia first when I enter. Her face is red and puffy like she has been crying. The bruises on her neck and arms look a little better than they did last night. Her blonde hair is in a braid now and she is sitting on the bed with her knees pulled up. Her arms hugging them watching Phineas and Ferb on the hospitals tv. She doesn't even turn her head when I come in. Her expression is solemn and distant like she is not really here right now.

"How did she take everything?" I ask Evie quietly to the side.

"About as you would expect. Did the nurses say when we can leave? I think taking her out of the hospital will help" Evie says giving a frown. I nod to my sister.

"Yeah...they said she can leave soon...they also told me she is really under weight....I think it's time to address her eating habits in a more serious manner...I don't want anything bad to happen to her...All of this is my fault. I shouldn't have stepped outside at the party...I knew it wasn't safe and I angered Connor in the first place which made him decide to go after her...I never should have been that pricks friend...I should have been more forceful with her when it came to her eating habits...I mean I see every day how little she eats and I barely did anything about it." I say feeling disheartened.

"Ronan, I say this with all the sisterly love in the world but pull it together. Now is not the time to beat yourself up about everything. You can't change things and I don't think you could have had you thought to at the time anyways. Cassia needs you to step up and be more right now. If you really want to beat yourself up about this we can talk more later but right now lets just focus on making sure she is okay and supporting her. We will definitely address her eating habits later. She needs you to be light that she normally provides so no more gloom please" Evie says. I take a deep breath. She is right. I need to be strong and light for Cassia right now because she is facing a lot of darkness.

"You're right...I am gonna go sit with her" I say before leaving my sister and heading over to the hospital bed. "Mind if I sit with you?" I ask Cassia causing her to finally look over at me. She gives me a weak smile and nods before moving so that I can sit down on the bed beside her. Once I am sat down she moves closer to me and lays her head on my shoulder. I gently put my arm around her and kiss the top of her forehead. "I got something for you at the gift shop" I say looking at her and handing the bunny plush to her. She sits up straight taking the bunny from me.
