Our clothing looked so out of place in the year 1518.
And I've watched just about enough time travel movies to know how it works.
One mistake of being spotted by the folks here would mean an unplanned trip to prison.
Haechan and I had to hide from people. And fast.
"I can't believe this!" He whispered frantically, "I can't believe that old man sent us to the past! But moreover, I can't believe that watch is actually a time machine!"
Of course, there was that necklace that the old man had given us, a watch that could possibly be a device that allows us to travel through time.
But bless that old man's soul, for he did not tell us how it works—and we were stuck in the 16th century.
At first, I couldn't believe it either.
I can't believe everything is real. The time machine is real.
It was just a small circular watch, about one or two inches in size, attached to a silver chain.
But who would've known that an object as small as that would send us into this frenzied situation—sending us way back into the past.
"We have to hide, Haechan!" I stated, just as frantically.
We looked around for a hiding spot in the open field.
There was a huge tree south of the village, so we ran towards it.
When we reached it, we hid behind the huge thick trunk.
"This should be good for now," Haechan said, panting.
I nodded, sliding down on the rough wood of the tree onto the grass.
It was getting darker, the grey skies turning a midnight hue.
We rested for a bit, catching our breaths. After a few minutes, we peeked around the tree trunk.
Haechan and I hadn't noticed it before, due to the panic caused by this whole ordeal, but there was a dark and huge castle looming over the whole village.
There truly was no doubt, we have traveled to the past.
"So, time machines, huh?" Haechan uttered.
We both looked at the small object, the silver chain hanging from my hand. The lid was still open, the platform of small numbers visible.
"To whoever made this thing, couldn't you have created a bigger watch? I can barely make out the numbers," Haechan muttered to himself, examining the pendant.
"Where are we, though?" I asked in a low voice.
"Definitely not Seoul, that's for sure."
We examined the surroundings once again, looking at all directions.
The other side of the field, at the far end, were mountains.
A dead end.
I shivered from the cold gust of wind. Or rather, the chilling realization that we were lost. And possibly helpless.
