Mark Lee? In my dimension?

Mark Lee, as in Lee Minhyung's great grandfather?

I stared at Dr. Renjun, a curious yet confused look in my eyes.

"What happened with Mark Lee?"

"It was my one mistake that caused all of these to happen."

He breathed out a deep sigh, then looked back to the screen in front of him, navigating through file folders. Then he started again.

"You see, when he and I met, I was very surprised that he looked so much like my friend Mark, and they even have the same name. I was just as lost as you when I first traveled to a different dimension, especially after waking up in a different body who looks the same as me. But then I learned that the version of Elizabeth there also passed away."

Multidimensional travel, people looking alike, waking up in someone else's body.

Hearing him say those words felt so supernatural. It was as if it was the first time I'm hearing of it, despite experiencing those exact same things.

"It's a long story, but to cut it short, Mark Lee had stolen my prototype when he learned that I'm not from his dimension. Initially, I tried to take it back. But a fight ensued between us and when he got my prototype and pressed the button, I was immediately sent back here in my dimension.

"Meanwhile, he's out there somewhere, staying in a place where he's not supposed to be in. So when I came back here, with no prototype in hand, I immediately created another one. A much more advanced device."

I stared at the watch on the platform.

"I traveled into other dimensions, trying to look for him and the stolen prototype, but I couldn't find him. Things were starting to change in here as well as in other dimensions, an effect of one entity being in a time or place where they don't belong."

"Like time traveling?" I interjected.

"Yes, exactly. You cannot change the past and expect things to be the same in the present or future. That is the same with dimensions. These things are always interconnected with each other."

He looked me straight in the eyes.

"And because Mark is in a place where he's not supposed to be in, things have changed in your dimension."

"How so?" I then asked, still a little bit confused. "How does it work, exactly?"

Dr. Renjun typed on his floating neon keyboard, then a 3D model of two persons appeared in front of us mid-air.

"This is you," he pointed to the first person, "when you travel time, your physical body travels with you."

With his hand and his ultra-modern technology, he demonstrated the process of time travel using the 3D models.

"You have a physical body, therefore you exist physically in time. But that only applies in one's own dimension. If I time-traveled in my dimension, my past self will be able to see me. It is not advisable, however.

"But if I travel dimensionally, my physical body stays in my dimension while my mind—or the soul, as one calls it—is transferred into my counterpart from the other dimension. The other person from that dimension will then be transferred to my body in my dimension."

Slowly, I nodded in understanding as I watched the presentation with awe.

"In simple terms, it's an exchange of souls. I don't exactly know why it works that way. Perhaps, that's just the rule of the universe."
