Sophie

The room was dead silent. No one dared to say anything, they were all processing this information......except Biana. She was so pale that she looked like she was going to die.

So, Sophie did what any sensible person would do.

She ran.

She ran faster than she ever thought she could until she shoved the buzzing energy out of her and opened a teleportation hole.

She fell into the void and imagined The Shores of Solace.

Oralie

Oralie was in very big trouble. She didn't know how the Council found out, all she knew was that the consequences would be very severe. Like Exile severe.

"Did she know, Oralie?" Emery's voice snapped her out of her thoughts. " Did Sophie know? Don't bother lying. I'm reading your mind. If you try, the punishment will be even worse."

"Why are you punishing her for creating something beautiful?" Biana's voice said quietly.

"Because Councillors aren't supposed to have children." Alina snapped.

"Is that the only reason?" Biana challenged, her voice growing more confident.

"Yes." Alinja huffed.

"I don't think it is," Dex said. "You are mad because Sophie's existence has unearthed the Neverseen. In your eyes, she has brought trouble. She's more powerful than you. You don't like that."

Once again. the room went silent.

"Very well. But, Oralie did not answer the question." Emery growled.

"Yes." She whispered. "She knew. And she hates me for it."

"She should," Alina muttered.

"For now, you will be suspended from the Council until we find a replacement."

Oralie hung her head.

"Do you know who the father is?" Bronte whispered.

She shook her head, not trusting her voice.

"You are dismissed."

When the last person lept away, Oralie broke down into sobs. Only one person could make her feel better.

Kenric.

Fitz

Fitz was currently smashing things in his room. He was so mad. Sophie couldn't trust him with the information of her biological mom. He had to find out from his father. He knew he had to try to move on from her but when he found out Oralie was her mom, all the emotions came back.

After all, it was matchmaking that made them break up.

He wasn't supposed to tell anyone about it, to maintain the secret. The public wasn't even supposed to know that she was being suspended from the Council.

Just as he was going to smash a vase, a blood-curdling scream was heard. Startled, he dropped that bat on his foot. He groaned in pain but limped the fastest he could downstairs only to see Sophie's lifeless form in Keefe's arms.
