Sophie

"What!?!" Sophie yelled.

Mr. Forkle looked at her curiously. "Is that a problem?"

Before she answered, Sophie stole a glance at Fitz. "No. I'm just surprised."

"Why? This is what you were created for. To be a leader. More so now, now that you have more powers." Mr. Forkle reminded her gently.

"I guess." She mumbled.

"Who are you taking?" Biana asked.

"Keefe," Sophie said immediately.

" I figured. Who else? The max is 6, including you."

Sophie thought this over. Truth is, she didn't want to bring so many people. She thought she and Keefe would be enough. BUT, there were some people that needed to come.

"Could I also bring Grady, Edaline, and Oralie?" She asked quietly. Sophie wanted them to see the loved ones they lost.

Mr. Forkle's smile was sweet as he replied, "Yes."

Emery clapped his hands. "Perfect. Be ready in ten minutes."

"Wait! Could I come too?" FItz blurted.

Oh no

"Only if Ms. Foster allows it." Mr. Forkle answered.

She didn't look at him as she shook her head. She couldn't bear to see Fitz's face.

--Time Skip--

"Are you ready to go?" Mr. Forkle asked.

"As ready as I'll ever be." Sophie was determined. She had to rescue Jolie and Kenric.

Keefe and the other adults joined Sophie and Mr. Forkle to light leap to the base. They arrived in a pine tree forest.

"This is creepy," Keefe whispered.

She nodded in agreement and grabbed his hand.

"Scared?" Keefe teased.

"You're the one who said it was creepy." Sophie shot back.

He chuckled but didn't say anything. Sometimes he was so annoying. Scratch that, he was always annoying.

"I'm picking up a lot of annoyance there, Foster."

"That's the base there." Mr. Forkle said, interrupting the bickering and pointing to a building in the distance.

Sophie squinted and sure enough, she could see the stone building.

Grady took the lead, the rest following behind him. When they finally arrived, Sophie's feet were aching, so she had to ask, "Why didn't the crystal leap directly here?"

"Probably a safety measure." Mr. Forkle replied.

The door creaked open, giving Sophie the chills. As they carefully entered, Edaline conjured a balefire pendant, giving them a little light.

"Which room are they being held in?" Oralie asked, her voice barely audible.

Mr. Forkle pointed to a room down the left hall.

They walked quickly but quietly until they were outside the room. Grady, Edaline, and Oralie were shaking.

"Perhaps, it would be for the best if only me and Ms. Foster went." Mr. Forkle said quietly.

They noded meekly and moved away, so they wouldn't see the horrors in the room.

Sophie opened the door slowly and what she saw made her collaspe.

Her head hit the floor hard and she barely registered the voices calling her name. The pain was too much for her, so she pulled her consciousness back. The last thing she saw was Jolie and Kenric's broken bodies.

I'm sorry for the short chapter. I'll make the next one extra long!

Happy reading!
