Keefe clapped him on the back. "Also, Mr. Forkle is here."

Sophie's head whipped up. "He is?"

"Yeah, and he said he has really important and urgent news."

Fitz wondered what the news could be. They defeated The Neverseen.

They ran back into Havefield and found Mr. Forkle pacing the room.

"What's wrong?" Sophie asked.

He looked up and the expression on his face made Fitz take a step back. Mr. Forkle looked like a crazy man. His hair was messed up, his eyes were darting around, and had bags under them.

"Are you okay?" Sophie asked quietly.

"Kenric and Jolie." He whispered hoarsely. "They're alive."

Present Time - Sophie

"What!?!" Sophie yelled. Her scream was so loud that Grady and Edaline came running into the room.

"What's wrong?" He asked.

Sophie's eyes darted to Mr. Forkle and then to her parents. She didn't want to say it.

Mr. Forkle cleared his throat. "Kenric and Jolie are alive."

Edaline's hand went up to her mouth. trying to cover up a sob. 

"Are you sure?" Grady's voice was sharp.

"100 percent. They are being held hostage in one of the Neverseen's bases."

"Why haven't they done anything with them?" Fitz asked.

"My guess is that Brant wanted Jolie and when he died, they just forgot about her." Edaline started crying again so Grady took her upstairs. "as for Kenric, I think they wanted to use him for leverage but didn't have a chance."

Sophie felt the guilt coming and Keefe could sense it. He took her hand and whispered, "It wasn't your fault."

"It feels like it is." She choked out.

"It's not." Then he turned to Mr. Forkle and asked, "Are we going to tell the Council?"

"We must." 

Sophie realized that meant seeing Oralie and her reaction. Suddenly she wasn't feeling so excited.

"Are you okay? I can feel your dread." 

Sophie jumped. "I want to tell you something, alone." She added the last part quickly.

Keefe nodded and announced, "Me and Sophie will be by the Panakes tree."

"We'll come too." Biana pointed to herself and Tam.

"No!" Keefe said a little too quickly.

Tam smirked. "Going to have Sokeefe snuggle time."

"If that's what you want to call it."

Sophie found all this ridiculous. She honestly didn't understand boys.

"Come on."

--Time Skip--

"What did you want to tell me?" Keefe asked when they were situated under the tree. Sophie's head on his chest and his arm around her shoulders.

Sophie took a deep breath and said quietly, "It's about my biological mother."

Keefe stiffened. "Did you find out who it was?"

She nodded and whispered, "It's Oralie."

A gasp came from behind the tree.

Sophie and Keefe jumped up. "Biana?"

She unvanished and her head was down in shame. "I'm sorry, I didn't know it was about that."

Sophie wrapped her friend in a hug and whispered in her ear. "It's okay. I trust you with my life just don't tell anyone."

She felt so dumb for not checking if anyone was there. 

Biana nodded meekly. "When I left Mr. Forkle was hailing the Council."

On cue, they glittered into view.

--Time Skip--

Once again, they were all crowded in the living room of Havenfield. The Collective were also there, as were Alden and Della.

Biana and Keefe were avoiding Oralie, while Sophie was avoiding the whole Council. She still hasn't forgiven them.

"What was so urgent that you needed all of us here?" Bronte barked.

Mr. Forkle got straight to the point. "Kenric and Jolie are alive."

Oralie fainted, Fitz catching her, and the rest of the Council gasped.

Sophie almost laughed.

"How did you get this information?" Emery rasped.

Granite waved him off, "That doesn't matter. We must organize a rescue team."

Sophie's hand shot into the air. "I'll go."

"That is a given Ms. Foster. In fact, you'll be leading."
