"Do you really have to go?" Billie asked, her voice cracking as she held onto Jesse tightly, refusing to let him go. They stood there in the middle of the crowded terminal, their bodies pressed against each other, their hearts beating in unison. It was as if the rest of the world had faded away, leaving only the two of them in this moment, sharing this intimate goodbye.
"I'm sorry, baby," Jesse whispered, his eyes filling with tears. "But I need to do this. It's my duty. I'll be thinking of you every second of every day. I promise to come back to you and our little one."
As if on cue, the announcement blared over the loudspeaker, calling Jesse to board his final flight as co-pilot of flight AA370 from Los Angeles to Tokyo. With a deep breath, he leaned in and kissed Billie passionately, their tears mingling together as they held onto each other for what felt like an eternity. Finally, they pulled away, still clutching at each other's hands.
"I love you," Jesse whispered, his voice barely audible above the din of the terminal.
"I love you more," Billie replied, her voice breaking.
Their hands slipped from each other's grasp as they each took a step back. With a final, heartfelt smile, Jesse turned and walked away, disappearing into the crowd of uniformed pilots and crew members. Billie watched him go, feeling as if a piece of her soul was being torn from her chest. She waved frantically until he was out of sight, her fingers trembling with the effort.
She took the car, heading home as it was already late night. She tried to sleep, but the image of Jesse kept haunting her. She tossed and turned, the sheets tangled around her, unable to find any comfort. As the sun rose, she got up, feeling restless. She decided to go to the gym, hoping that a good workout would help her clear her mind. As she drove to the gym, her hands clenched tightly around the steering wheel, her knuckles white. She was a mess, and she knew it.

As she was at the gym, doing some workouts, her phone rang, the caller ID unknown. She picked up, hoping it was Jesse, calling to tell her he'd landed safely. But it was her friend, Maevie, who was calling to inform her that there was some sort of commotion at the airport. Billie's heart skipped a beat as she hung up and dialed the airline's customer service number. After being on hold for what felt like an eternity, she was finally able to speak to a representative. They informed her that there had been an accident and that flight AA370 was missing. Billie felt as if she had been punched in the stomach. She could hardly breathe.
"What the fuck?!?" Billie screamed into the phone. The world seemed to stop spinning as she tried to process the information. She felt like she was in a nightmare, unable to wake up. Her mind raced with terrible possibilities. "Are you sure? Is there any way to find out what happened? Anything?" she pleaded, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Bitch I'm heading there," Billie growled, hanging up the phone and shoving her phone back into her gym bag. She sprinted out of the gym, her heart pounding in her chest as she raced to her car. She didn't know what she would find when she got there, but she knew she had to be there. As she drove through the city streets, her mind raced with questions and fears. She couldn't shake the image of Jesse's face, the last time she'd seen him. She prayed that he was okay, that somehow he had survived.
The drive to the airport seemed to take forever, each passing mile feeling like an eternity. When she finally arrived, the scene was chaos. Emergency vehicles swarmed the terminal, their lights flashing incessantly. People milled about, some crying, some looking lost and confused. Billie couldn't believe what she was seeing. She fought her way through the crowd, desperate to find someone who could tell her what had happened. She didn't know where to begin.
She saw Maevie waiting over there and rushed to her. "What the fuck happened? What the fucking hell is happening here!?!?" she screamed, her voice hoarse from the fear and the adrenaline. Maevie grabbed her, pulling her close as if to comfort her.
"Billie, listen, please don't stress yourself out too much, we'll find the plane. I know it's hard, but we have to be strong," Maevie tried to calm her down, holding her tightly. Billie felt like her heart was breaking, her chest heaving up and down as she tried to catch her breath. She looked around, her eyes darting from one person to another, searching for someone who could tell her what was going on.
"T-There were 239 passengers on b-board, and so was my Jesse," Billie voice broke as she spoke. "I can't lose him, Maevie. I just can't." She buried her face in her hands, her shoulders shaking with sobs. "I can't even think about it."
Maevie held her friend tightly, trying to comfort her. "We'll find him, Billie. We'll find him, I promise. But right now, we need to stay strong for each other, okay?"
Billie smiled lightly, "How? How can that even be possible when he is my strength, my rock? I can't lose him, Maevie. I just can't." She let out a shuddering breath, tears streaming down her face. "I need to find him. I need to know he's okay. And now with a baby on the way...I just...I can't even..." Her voice trailed off as she fought to maintain her composure.
Maevie gently rubbed her back, "We'll get through this, Billie. Together. We'll find Jesse and we'll get through this. You just need to stay strong, okay?" She squeezed her friend's shoulder, hoping her words would somehow ease the pain and fear that Billie was feeling.
The hours passed agonizingly slow as they waited for any news, any update on the search for the missing plane. They listened to rumors and whispers, each one more terrifying than the last. Billie felt like she was living in a nightmare, unable to wake up. She paced the floor, her mind racing with terrible possibilities. She kept seeing Jesse's face, the last time they were intimate, which wasn't that long ago. The way he'd look at her. She couldn't shake the image from her mind.
They both hurried to the controls room. The operator frantically worked at his computer, trying to locate any sign of the missing flight. "What's your last known position?" Billie demanded.
The operator took a deep breath and looked up at them, his eyes filled with anguish. "Ma'am, the last known position was about 50 miles off course. It's possible they were trying to make an emergency landing at a nearby military base. But we haven't heard anything from them since then."
Billie's heart sank. An emergency landing at a military base...that didn't sound good. "Can you get us there? To the military base, I mean?" she asked, her voice trembling. The operator nodded and started to work furiously, trying to plot the quickest route.
As they waited, Maevie put an arm around Billie's shoulder, trying to offer what comfort she could. "It's going to be okay, Billie. We're going to get through this. We're going to find Jesse and bring him home. You just have to stay strong for both of you."
