Billie took a moment to collect her thoughts. "Honestly, I'm still in shock. It's hard to process everything that's happened. As for the captain, I can't imagine him being involved in anything like this. He was a professional, a hero really." She paused, her voice catching. "As for the flight itself, I guess I never really thought about it. Jesse loved his job, and I always knew how important it was to him."
"So how do you cope with all of this, Miss Eilish? With a baby as well. . ."
Captain Thomas trailed off, his voice full of sympathy. "It must be incredibly difficult for you."
Billie wiped away a tear, composing herself as best she could. "It is. There's certainly no doubt that it'd not difficult. But I have my family, and my friends. They've been incredibly supportive. We're all just trying to stay strong for Jesse's sake." She took a deep breath, mustering a small smile. "And of course, we're doing everything we can to find out what happened to him. We're going through old photos, talking to other people who knew him."
Captain Thomas nodded sympathetically. "Thank you for sharing that with us, Billie. Your strength and resilience are truly admirable. Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about Jesse?"
Billie took a moment to gather her thoughts. "He- He's such an incredible man, and he turned my life upside down and I'd forever be grateful that at least, I have the memories of him. I wish I could tell him how much I love him and how much he meant to me, but all I can do now is cherish the time we had together. He was the love of my life, and he always will be." Her voice broke, and she wiped away another tear. "I just hope that one day, we'll find out what happened to him and bring him home."
Captain Thomas listened intently, his expression solemn. He glanced down at his notepad before looking back up at her. "Thank you, Billie. Your memories of Jesse will help us in our investigation. We will do everything in our power to bring him home."
Billie nodded, grateful for the captain's words. "Thank you, Captain. I appreciate everything you and your team are doing." She paused, taking a deep breath to steady her voice. "Is there anything else you need from me?"
Captain Thomas considered her question carefully before responding. "I don't think so for now, Billie. But please, don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything you remember or any information you think might be helpful. We're here to support you in any way we can."
Billie nodded, feeling a small sense of relief. "Thank you, Captain. I won't forget that." She stood up, gathering her things, and offered her hand to the captain. "If there's anything else you need from me, please don't hesitate to ask."
Captain Thomas rose to his feet, taking her hand and shaking it firmly. "I appreciate your cooperation, Billie. We'll keep you informed of any developments in our investigation." He walked her to the door, where one of his officers was waiting to escort her back.
As Billie was led out of the room, she couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. Despite the pain and uncertainty, it was good to know that the authorities were taking Jesse's disappearance seriously. She hoped that soon, they would find some answers, and bring him home where he belonged.
She headed to Zoe's place, needing the comfort of her best friend. Zoe's house was always a welcoming haven, filled with laughter and the scent of delicious food. As she entered, Zoe threw her arms around her, holding her tightly. "Hello there! By the way, Rose is really fussing because she wants her mama." Zoe laughed, trying to lighten the mood.
Billie chuckled and walked inside, seeing Rose in her bassinet. She gently picked her up and held her close, rocking her gently. The familiar weight of her daughter in her arms was reassuring, and she couldn't help but breathe in her sweet scent. "Hi there. Did you miss me?" she whispered, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
As they settled in on the couch, Zoe began to tell her about her day, filling Billie in on the latest gossip from work and their friends. It was just like old times, and Billie found herself forgetting for a moment the dark cloud that hung over them all. But then, she would catch a glimpse of Zoe's concerned expression, or feel the weight of Jesse's absence pressing down on her heart, and the reality would come rushing back.
"Man it's been months since the plane went missing, and no one knows anything but only theories. It's just heartbreaking to think that they might be out there suffering, or worse...," Zoe trailed off, her voice thick with emotion.
Billie nodded in agreement, her heart aching for Jesse and the others who were still missing. "I know it's hard to stay hopeful, but we have to believe that they're alive and they'll come back to us," she said, forcing a note of determination into her voice. "We can't give up on them."
Zoe sighed, her gaze drifting toward the television screen where a news anchor was reporting on the search efforts. "It's not just that, though. It's the not knowing. I mean, what if they are out there suffering? What if they need us and we can't reach them? I just wish we had some sort of sign, some indication that they're okay."
Billie couldn't help but nod in agreement. The not knowing was the worst part. She glanced down at her phone, hoping for a message from the authorities, some news about the investigation. But there was nothing. The silence was deafening.
The days turned into weeks, and the weeks into months. The search parties scoured the islands, combing through the dense jungle and treacherous mountains, but they found no trace of the missing passengers. The news cycles moved on to other stories, and the world seemed to forget about them. Only the families who were affected remained vigilant, refusing to give up hope.
