Chapter Thirty
Treasure your friends dearly and never let them go. Because once you drop them, it’s hard to spot the diamond from the rest of the glass on the floor.
I went to the school’s dormitory after class since Janica and I are back in tutoring. Too bad that I have a habit of going very early on a meeting place so when I got there and I haven’t spotted Janica, I decided to wait for her outside.
‘Waiting for a miracle to come?’ I heard someone say and I look back to see Andrew.
I smiled as I saw him. He sat beside me on a bench and he offered me a “Happy Peanut”. I miss eating this with him especially when we just talk around some stuff.
‘How are you?’ he asked to break the silence.
‘I’m fine. Just the ordinary.’ I said.
He ate another pack of peanuts and shoots it in his mouth.
I laughed at him. ‘Oh look I found a whole one!’
I gasped and I should it to him. ‘Make a wish.’
He smiled. I know that he remembers. It’s kind of our little game that we both made. That when we eat a happy peanut and we would get a whole one we’d have a wish before eating eat.
He stayed silent for a while, I know he’s making his wish and I smiled at the look of him.
‘Are you done?’ I asked and he nodded then I ate the peanut.
‘Is he being nice to you?’ he asked and I looked at him.
‘He’s good.’ My eyebrows met and he squared his shoulders. ‘But he’s acting so weird lately or…’ I sighed. ‘I’m just making this stuff on my own again.’ I laughed awkwardly.
‘I love you.’ he said in almost a whisper.
I sighed heavily. I know nothing’s going to change here and my life’s getting complicated.
It’s a pain when a friend falls for you and you can’t respond to what he feels. More often than not, you fall in love with a person you can’t really have, while the one who truly loves you remains either a friend or a stranger—somebody you just don’t notice with interest. Isn’t it quite ironic?
‘I just want you to know that, but I don’t want to force you, Psyche.’ He said as he held my hand. ‘I can wait for you even if it takes forever.’
‘I don’t want to forget him, Drew.’ I pulled my hand away from him. It’s better that he knows than to let him wait for nothing. I know I would hurt him more if I do.
He let out a painful sigh, that’s what I guessed.
‘He’s so lucky.’ He shook his head and he faint a smile. ‘He doesn’t know what he already has and yet he ignores it.’
‘Andrew, if only I could teach my heart…’ there a felt a tear drop from my eye. ‘I’m sorry that I’m hurting you.’ I know that I felt his pain because I am feeling the same way too, but only towards Cupid. You know the feeling of being busted and still you don’t want to give up because you make a fool of yourself that you still have a damn chance. You believe that you have a chance. The truth just hurts that you don’t.
‘It’s all right, Psyche—‘
‘Please don’t say that.’ I wiped my tears before my eyes sore and Janica would notice.
He laughed. ‘You know I should be the one crying and not you. Now I feel sad because I made you cry.’
I stopped crying and he wiped away the remaining tears on my face.
