"Shit! That's them!" Mae shouted, pointing at the cars in front of them. Brian pushed the pedal harder so they could make it to Dom. Mae noticed Leon on the side of the road helping Letty out of her overturned car. What the fuck happened here?
Vince was hanging on the side of the truck, his arm covered in blood. The sight terrified Brian and Mae. Brian had one hand on the wheel and tried to stand up, pushing the roof off, leaving it somewhere behind them.
"Take the wheel! Put your foot on the gas-" Brian instructed, glancing over at Mae, who still sat on the passenger seat."Yeah I know how to drive a car" Mae cut him off as she climbed over into the driver seat.
"I'm going to get him!" Brian yelled, but it was hard to hear him through all the wind.
"Be careful, please" Mae muttered, she wanted to smash her head against the wheel for these words coming from her mouth. Brian nodded at her before jumping at the side of the truck."I'm gonna get you off this thing! Vince look at me!" Don't let go!" He yelled at him. Brian held the door with one hand and tried to untangle Vince's hand from the wires with the other. Mae's fear grew with each passing second.
Vince could finally stand up, but Brian still held him. Mae moved the car closer to the semi so they could both jump into it.
"Okay Vince, you go first!" Brian shouted. Vince mustered the last of his strength and jumped, landing successfully in the back seats."Are you okay? I mean- forget about it" Mae asked, then it dawned on her what a stupid question that was. Vince's hand was literally bleeding. Brian was still on the semi, preparing to jump. When he turned around, he saw the driver pointing a gun at him through the window.
Right behind him the window broke from the bullet, luckily he landed on the windshield in time.
"I hate you both" Mae rolled her eyes. Brian blocked Mae's view of the road so she made a sharp turn and went off the road. Leon, Dom and Letty stopped close behind them."If we don't get him to an ambulance, he's dead" Brian said. Dom ran towards them, panicking. Mae had never worried about Vince as much as she did now. Brian took his phone, Mae glancing over him. She knew what this meant, how this would turn out.
"This is officer Brian O'Conner" as soon as he said the word officer, Dom looked at him with the angriest look Mae had ever seen. He looked like if Vince's life wasn't in danger, he would have killed Brian. Right now, right here. "I'm sorry" Mae shook her head, tears glistening in her eyes as she looked at her brother.
"I'm off duty M.A.P.D. I need a life flight roll out right away. My twenty is highway eighty-six, mile marker one fourty-seven. I got one trauma victim 'bout twenty-four years of age, six foot, many two-hundred pounds. He's got real deep lacerations to his right arm with arterial bleeding. And he's got.. he's got a shotgun wound close range to his left flank. Yeah yeah- he's going into shock!" They looked down at Vince. Several emotions controlled Dom at once, he didn't understand what Brian had done to him and his family. He thought Brian was friend, obliviously wrong.A few minutes later the helicopter landed and Vince was brought into the helicopter, he was safe now. After the helicopter took off, Dom and Leon went to the car where Letty was, but Mae didn't follow them. She stood there looking at Brian.
"Mae, we need to go" Leon told her but she didn't listen. Dom hated to see her broken like this, he wanted to do everything to keep her safe, away from Brian.
"I'm sorry Maevie" Brian said, he walked closer to her, as he gently held her hand. "I'm sorry, I love you" he repeated. She turned to Dom and Leon who were impatiently waiting for her by the car."I love you too, Brian. But I shouldn't have trusted you" Mae let go of Brian's hand. She turned around and made her way to the car.
Brian wanted to beg for forgiveness, but he knew there was no point anymore. He watched his beloved Mae walk away to the car. A tear escaped from his eye.
She got into the car next to Letty and rested her head on Letty's shoulder. She burst into tears.
"I should have listened to you" Mae tried to take a breath, but it was hard from all that crying.Brian watched them driving away. He was left there alone with his Toyota Supra, the only thing he had left after Mae. All he could do at this moment was question his conscience.
After all that, Brian began to wonder if he still wanted to be an FBI agent at all. They probably wouldn't give him the job anyway, the job description was to arrest Mae and Dom, which he failed to do.
He lost the girl he wanted to marry, but he also lost his good friend. He knew he screwed up and he couldn't fix it anymore. All this for a job.
