I sat in darkness. No light filtered into the cave. I could feel the nightmares around me. Their thoughts only of fear. I could feel my goodness slowly fading, warmth leaving my limbs, and I relived my death and all my fears twice already. I longed for my snowflake, it was the only thing that kept dark creatures from affecting me too much. I slowly stood so not to upset the nightmares and walked around regaining feeling in my limbs. I found one small opening looking up at a night sky. I noticed the stars were dimming. "That's not good." I muttered as I felt a small head bump into me. Looking over a baby nightmare nudged me again. I carefully stroked the little one. It felt like velvety sand. "So they are warming up to you? Good very good. You are starting to turn." Pitches grimy voice ran over me causing me to shudder. "No I'm the guardian of the mystics, friends with all beings." I said turning as fire sprung up. I finally was able to see my prison. A cave deep underground slagmights and slagtights scattered around. And nightmares everywhere. Pitch stood by one of the bigger ones that I could tell was the leader. Pitches own companion, a stallion of deep ebony sand. (What just because they are called nightmares doesn't mean they are all girls!). "Really? Interesting that makes my job all the easier. You see once you turn I can use you to gather all the beasts and finally defeat those pesky guardians. Including that Jack Frost." Pitch proclaimed. Hearing jacks name made something stir within me, a feeling that I tried to grasp but it floated away. "Now lets get introduced. This is daemonsong and his mate shadow. I'm not sure on the rest of them just too many. Which is fine with me. Now go play with them. Let fear take over." Pitch said suddenly before pushing me closer to the nightmares and he disappeared. The little nightmare from before came over and nuzzled me concerned. With the lights I was able to see that each nightmare was a different shade of black or grey. The little one that was near me though had a soft gold under the deep black. It was a halfling, both dark and light, just like me. "You don't have a name do you little one?" I asked. The nightmare shook her head. "I'll call you nightheart then." I whispered. The nightmares around us started to call softly. As if testing the new name. Shadow came over and gazed at me nodding before going off and coming back a few minutes later with some old bedding. "Thank you." I said before curling up. I felt the other nightmares laying down around me with nightheart closest to me. That was how I fell asleep looking at the stars that faded down two more shades.
