Ch. 8

*jacks pov*
I couldn't believe that pitch had brought her here. To the place she became one of us. I took in the differences to the lily I knew. Skin as pale as ice frantic eyes hair disheveled riding a nightmare. There was a little one with them. And occasionally a flash of golden color. "The little one is a halfling jack. Very rare and usually killed or ostracized. They hold power of light and dark. I'm betting only due to lily the little one survived." Fenris said beside me. He looked worn thin himself. His eyes once held a fire but he was connected to lily like my dear little snow sprites who I sent to Norths home to protect them. I sent a blast of icy air at lily startling her. Pitch called her but the halfling stayed. "Night heart come on!" I heard her say callin the halfling. The others started fighting pitch but fenris and I moved towards her. We needed to get her necklace back to her. But of course fenris had to step on a stick. We almost had her persuaded manny even talked to her. But then suddenly she had taken off the nightmare racing away. Fenris growled and became a large white lion and raced after her Barely keeping up with nightmares speed. I flew above the trees where the others fought more nightmares and pitch, glancing up the stars seemed a bit brighter but not much the moon perked up as well. "Not all is lost jack. One day the balance will return." Manny whispered. "Hopefully not too late." I muttered back watching as fenris prowl back unhappily. "Got away?" Bunny asked coming up pitch too had gotten away. "What does it look like! Of course she's gone and every day she's changing soon it might change me! The pack they were evil killing her as they did. She was supposed to be my first human kill. I refused so they killed her i tried to protect lily but they turned on me. My own mother stood and watched it happen. I lost her once and I won't loose her again Bunny." Fenris stormed sending a tree crashing while we stared at him in shock and horror. "The bond between the guardian and helper is strong with those two." Tooth said softly. "What are we to do now?" Sandy signed. "We try to find his lair. That's what. It has to be in the area somewhere under ground." North said before a soft whinny and a fenris's growls could be heard. We raced to where they were. Under lilys "grave" fenris as large white wolf faced off against a tiny nightmare. "Wait don't stop!" I shouted recognizing it. Fenris turned to me confused. "Look closer." I said even as I spoke a glimmer of gold ran down its body. "The halfling!" Bunny said shocked as sandy made a gold sand rope for her. Fenris shifted into a daydream (a gold colored horse like a nightmare) and talked to the little one who allowed the rope. Fenris shifted back shocked. "Her name is nightheart. She said she bonded with the guardian but got left behind in the escape. She was keeping her safe holding off some of the dark. If she doesn't get back soon lily will be pitch's to control. She wants to help." He said softly. "Then she will she will know the way into the lair but let us rest now. Dawn approaches swiftly. And I do not know if a halfling will survive mornings light" North said as we all went back to Norths via his snow globe well besides bunny who used his rabbit holes. We settled nightheart into a room with one window that allowed minimal light and plenty of straw and I looked out te window staying with her. "Pitch will pay for this." I muttered ice creeping around the window as I clutched lilys necklace close as my sprites played with nightheart curious about the halfling.
