Part 19

A little after Ezra's 17th birthday...

Ezra awoke with a start. Today was the day. Both he and his master knew it. No one else would. Kanan would disentigrate like sand and reform in the Abyss. And Ezra would be cursed to remember his master's terrible fate. Ezra walked into Kanan's room. It was early in the morning.

Kanan was meditating. Of course he couldn't sleep. Ezra sat down next to Kanan. He put his head on his shoulder. How long they sat there, neither knew, but they didn't want to move, because that meant Kanan would leave. Both of them were crying, and when Sabine walked in, she looked at the two guys, and she couldn't remember why she needed to talk to Kanan. She sat down in front of them. She sighed and leaned against the wall. After a while, she stood up and tight before she left, she muttered, "I am really gonna miss you Caleb." And walked out.

Neither chased after, it would hurt them too much. Before long, all of the crew was in Kanan's room morning the loss of their leader.

Ezra's padawan braid hung loosly in his hair. He silently vowed to himself that he would never take it out, and to use it to remember why he fought for good.

"It's time."

"I know Caleb. Sabine told us" the pilot said. It was good to hear his name before he left. They walked outside.

Kanan fell down on the floor, everyone stood back and watched him. "Ezra, stay safe!" He yelled before he disintegrated into dust. Ezra fell to his knees. Now starts the 6 years of pain. His eyes watered. "Ezra, why are you crying?" Hera asked him. The rest of the crew went inside without an answer from Ezra.

All but Sabine. She sighed"I miss him too Ezra." Shocked Ezra turned around as she sat next to him. "You....you remember?"

"Not for long. The memories are starting to fade. Caleb was a good man, and you know he never knew my secret."

Ezra sighed and laughed a little. Sabine focused for a moment, and she pulled Ezra's light saber to her hand.

"Train me," she whispered.

She was talented. "OK."
