❝ did practice end early? ❞
you glanced up at the boy who made his way over to the cherry blossom treee and sat down next to you quieter than usual. you sat on your bottom, your legs being hugged by your arms towards your chest. akaashi crossed his legs and nodded, laying both of his hands into his lap and gently throwing his head back enough for it to lean onto the tree.
"are you okay?" you continued to look at akaashi, worry spreading all over your face.
"no, not really.." akaashi uttered, staying in the same position. "is this about volleyball?" you carefully asked, not wanting akaashi to get upset. thankfully, he simply nodded. "wanna talk about it?" akaashi looked at you with his eyebrows slightly furrowed. "are you sure?" he spoke with a soft tone. "i'm all ears kaashi!" you gave him a heartfelt smile. he inhaled then exhaled, slowly parting his lips to speak.
"it's just- there's so much pressure on me to be a good player," akaashi exhaled. "everyone—everything is too much. what if i don't meet their expectations?" his hand traveled up to his head, lightly gripping his hair in the process. "one mistake—just one, and i possibly disappoint everyone who believes in me.." akaashi lifted his head, dropping his hand from his hair and turning his gaze over to you, looking you in your eyes.
"i can't disappoint them. they believe in me.." his voice that was barley a whisper still manged to sneak in a voice crack. the sight of akaashi made you frown. seeing him so down and upset like this quite literally broke you. you never wanted to see him like this again.
your body ended up reacting before you could even think. you scooted closer to him and not even seconds later, akaashi felt two arms wrap around his body. your cheek touching his. if akaashi weren't so down the way he was now, he probably would've been blushing to how close the two of you were at this moment.
"you won't disappoint them." you softy whispered, tightening your hug, but not too tight. akaashis hand gently grabbed your arm that laid right on his chest and before he knew it, tears gradually started flowing from his eyes. "but what if i do??" akaashi quickly asked, his voice laced with anxiety.
"if you do, i'd still think you're amazing," you smiled warm heartedly. "i haven't seen you play yet, but i just know you're great on court!" akaashi only stayed silent, tears uncontrollably running down his cheeks. "you don't need to feel pressured to be any more good than you already are," you hesitated before saying the next few words that were to come out of your mouth.
"you're perfect."
akaashis eyes slightly widened at your words, which just resulted in him crying even more. regardless of that, he still made sure to ask you something. "can we.. stay like this for a little?" you happily agreed, hugging him close.
a couple of minutes passed and you two had (sadly) broke away from your hug. you and akaashi were now standing up, bags thrown over your shoulders, getting ready to walk home. akaashi was currently trying to walk you home, in which you didn't agree to.
"seriously akaashi, you don't have to walk me home today! it's fine, i promise!" you argued with the boy who was really determined on walking you home. "i've been such a bother to you this afternoon, the least i could do is walk you home." you sweat dropped at him who was 100% serious in his statement.
"dude, you definitely were not a bother to me. that's what friends do, help each other. there's no way you could ever be a bother towards me, got it?!" you squinted your eyes at him playfully.
"then, in that case." akaashi sighed in defeat. "thank you again, y/n. goodnight." he flashed a small but noticeable smile towards you, making you smile back. "goodnight! eat well and get good rest, okay?" and with that, he nodded going the opposite way from you. you too, turned the opposite way and started your journey home.
akaashi couldn't help but to leave that small smile on his face that held dry tear marks, also showing his visible bloodshot eyes from crying. he couldn't help but to think of you.
