          Smash

"Asher, put your guard up!" a voice called out.  It was Garric, your dad looking down at you. He was smiling down at you as you try to shake your mind of the ringing in your ears.

"Sorry, I... my mind wandered a bit there. Forgot to keep my guard up." I replied back. After the punch I received, I found myself on my rear drenched in sweat. The morning sun was barely peeking through the windows. Glancing back at the timer on top of the chair and I saw that there was still a minute left on the timer. I looked back at my dad, his jet black hair seemingly free of any sweat and his piercing red eyes staring back at me. I remember asking him before why we had red eyes, but he just chuckled and laughed it off.

"C'mon 'Sparky'. We still got a bit more before the round is over." jolting you out of your stupor. Garric was leaning down with his gloved hand.

"Dad please I'm not a kid anymore. I'm already 10!" taking the hand back to my feet. "Stop calling me that."

"Whatever kid, lets finish this set up so that you can get ready for school before Grover gets here."

I grumbled as I put my hands back up. Grover was a friend I made at school. He was kind of scrawny and walked with a limp. He said he was 10 just like me but I always wondered if there were any 5th graders that had acne and a budding beard like him. He told me that he was crippled which is why he walked with a limp, but whenever my dad made enchilada, the boy can really run.

Anyway, Grover was getting bullied in my class as the kids saw him as an easy target and I just couldn't take it one day. I stood up for him and not many decided they want to go against me since my dad used to be the 'UFC Lightweight Champion' for 7 years before he retired. Now he just has a small little gym that doubles as a house that he coaches in.

Despite all this, there were still other kids who wanted to pick on Grover and I wouldn't let them get their way with it.

          So I befriended Grover

"You're letting your mind wander again" Garric called out as he threw his hand in front of my face. Panicking I tried to block the jab that was covering my vision. Then as if the punch decided that it had other plans, I saw it get pulled back with another hand coming to side of head.

          Smack

I yelped out as my rear met the floor again "Ouch!" Garric looked down at me again with a grin

"You always fall for that feint don't you?"

"I'll get you next time I swear" mumbling I got back up to my feet as the bell rang the round over.

"Alright Sparky, go shower and rest up for Grover." holding his fist up. I bumped his fist with my own and slowly made my way upstairs where my room was. After I freshened up I heard some voices downstairs.

"Hey Mr. Arrington, good morning!"

"Morning Grover, also how many times do I have to say to just call me Garric?"

"Ha ha, s-sorry, I'll try to remember next time."

Looking back at my bag, I checked one more time that I had everything before heading downstairs.

"Yo Grover!" grinning I walked up to Grover as I gave him a fist bump.

"Working hard again Asher?" he grinned back at me. "C'mon we only got a few more minutes before the bus gets here."

"Crap! You're right!" I looked at the time "Ok Dad I'm going now!"

"Have a good day at school Sparky! Be safe!" I heard him yell back as I ran out the door with Grover.

I got to the bus stop just as it pulled up.
