The outside turned into a slow blur as the school bus took off from our stop. I looked at my reflection in the window while sitting next to Grover. Brown hair with fiery red eyes looked back at me. I always asked Dad why we don't have the same features like most other children but he told me that we do have the same feature.
"You have the same piercing eyes that I have, but your hair you got from your mom. We just both happened to have red eyes." he said. But that always led to me asking who my mom was. But he only told me that she was a woman that was kind and always made you feel at home.
Whatever that meant.
"We got that science lab today, man I hope Ms. Abney won't call on me during it." Grover said to me. I looked back at him and I saw him getting nervous and starting to chew on his shirt.
"We'll be fine, just be my partner and tell me all the instructions." I replied back. Its good to have Grover as a partner since it would mean I wouldn't have to spend thirty minutes looking at the instructions trying to decipher it. My dyslexia makes any word I look at an unreadable mess. It doesn't help that my ADHD can also cause me to stop focusing on the words too.
Grover mumbled back "Yeah as long as we get to pick our partners this time that is."
The school started appearing in front of my window.
"C'mon Grover, lets get to class." As I started getting off of the bus. Grover got up and started following me before I heard yelp.
"Wah!" I turned around and saw him laying on the ground.
"Awww little Grover mistook his step?" I looked up and saw Ridley Kingston standing over Grover while sneering. Him and his goons were laughing while Ridley slicked back his gelled blonde hair.
"Why do you even hang out with this loser anyways?" Ridley called to me. I looked back at him with the best death glare I can give. Visibly seeing him flinch back made me smirk a little.
"Shut up Rudley, you're gonna get your hand stuck in your head with all that gel you use."
"ITS RIDLEY!"
"Yeah ok Rumbly." I helped Grover back up to his feet and walked off the bus.
"Thanks Asher" Grover whispered to me. "But you know that you shouldn't get into any fights with him anymore, right? I promised Garric that I won't let you to get into one anymore."
I looked back at him with a dead look. "I don't go out of my way to fight with him though. He's the one who can't take a hint and keeps calling me out. You know that if I don't respond he will throw a haymaker at me in the hallway or something."
"Well you did torch his eyebrows off that one time." Grover smirked at me.
"I didn't do that though! He's the one who brought a lighter to school trying to torch your homework. It's not my fault that it went haywire." I bemoaned. I walked along side Grover till we got to class. Whoever thought of putting science as the first class at school definitely has it out for students. Thinking about the way water is taken from the ocean and made into clouds is certainly a sure way to make you fall asleep first thing.
I just didn't know that this would be the last time I would have a science class in the morning in a long time.
I walked through the class door to my seat while Grover sat next to me. The chairs started to fill out in no time and the last student walked in followed by my science teacher. Ms. Abney.
Ms. Abney was wearing her usual snakeskin jacket. She looked pretty enough that you would think she would win a beauty pageant. Her personality however was not as nice as she looked though.
