Chapter 5: The investigation

Previously in Prejudice in a human world:

[Asuka had been living his life the best he could. The beastman he saved prior had turned up and introduced herself as Mio. Asuka quickly became friends with her and he now vows to not only get to a normal life himself, but also do the same for her. Asuka ends up getting kidnapped when at university, but his friends are able to track him down and save him from the grasp of the beast hunters. Their leader, Kenji, wants Asuka's head, and now Asuka must be careful.]

Haruto: "Hey Asuka, wake up."

Asuka: H...Huh...? what is it?

Haruto: "The news is on"

Haruto is watching the news on his tv. Asuka sits up and watches it too. It looks to be an interview with someone, but it doesn't take long for Haruto to recognise a familiar face.

Haruto: "Hey, it's that girl I was playing basketball with the other day."

Asuka: "Oh yeah, I remember you telling me about her. You know who she is?"

Haruto: "She said her name was Michiru, and that she had a best friend called Nazuna who she usually would play with, but Nazuna was busy."

Asuka: "I actually bumped into someone called Nazuna on my way to college not too long ago."

Haruto: "Heh, well what a coincidence."

The pair focus on the tv.

Reporter: "So, what did you see?"

Michiru: "I saw some people kidnap a beastman, but I didn't get a close look at who it was."

Reporter: "Do you have any guesses?"

Michiru: "Well, my friend Nazuna turned into a beastman...tragically. It only happened after we got a blood transfusion..."

Reporter: "Hmm...do you suspect this transfusion to be the cause of the occurrence?"

Michiru: "Well, not really. Why would a hospital turn people into beastmen? That's crazy!"

Reporter: "Well, this is a strange world we live in. I say we should consider all possibilities!"

The pair get back to talking.

Haruto: "You think what the reporter says is right?"

Asuka: Hmm...well, I'm not sure. I've got beastman blood in me for sure, but I've never heard of humans transforming into them, let alone by a blood transfusion..."

Haruto: "You think we should check this out?"

Asuka: "Maybe we could. You got a plan?"

Haruto: "Uhh...we find the hospital that the transfusion happened in?"

Asuka: "Actually...I say we find this Michiru girl and do a little interview ourselves. They don't always show everything on tv after all."

Haruto: "But it's live. What have they got to hide?"

Asuka: "True...still, we could check out both ideas we have....or better yet, we find Michiru and bring her to that hospital, then surely we'll get some answers."

Haruto: "That's not a bad idea, but where are we gonna find her?"

Asuka: "Where did you see her last?"

Haruto: "At a basketball court, not too far from where we went for food back after your first day at university."

Asuka: "Would it even be safe for me to go out?"
