Chapter 2: An Old Friend

----7 YEARS LATER----

"ALASKA GET YOUR LAZY BUTT OUT OF THAT BED RIGHT NOW" Screamed a voice I knew all too well now.

"NO! YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!" I yelled back.

"Is that a challenge?"

"Um, no."

"Good, then get up."

I turned over and opened my eyes. Cody loomed over me like a shadow smiling like a crazy person. I groaned. "Screw you, Cody."

He feigned hurt. "That's no way to talk to your best friend."

I smirked and gave him an evil look. "Oh, but who said we're friends in the first place?"

He playfully glared at me before turning around and walking out the door of my room. He stopped at the door frame and turned his head to look at me. "Tsk, whatever, you win this time Alaska, NOW GET UP!" and walked right out.

I groaned and rolled off the bed, checking the time which read '7:30' A.M. Well, it's earlier than usual but at least he didn't wake me up at three o' clock in the morning this time. Cody likes to pull pranks on me, so one time he thought it would be funny to wake me up at three. He couldn't walk right the rest of the day. I staggered over to my closet and picked out my clothes for the day before heading downstairs to eat. Everyone bowed their heads when I was in full view. Oops! I forgot to mention that two years ago I was given the Beta position. Alpha Kyle said I was doing a fantastic job, and he trusted me with everything and gave me the position, making Cody the delta. The look on Cody's face was absolutely priceless. I grinned at the memory.

"Well what are you all happy about?" asked Cody approaching me from the kitchen, interrupting my thoughts.

I gave him an evil smirk. "Oh you know just remembering when I replaced you for the Beta position."

Cody's face fell. "HEY! Alpha Kyle only gave you that position because he felt bad for you, and wanted to make you feel special. That's all. Just wait, that position will be mine soon.

"Awe, it's so cute when you think you're actually right." I cooed.

Cody scoffed, "Whatever, brat."

"Come bite me wolf boy."

Cody smirked and we ran into the backyard, shifting into our wolves. Although Cody's jet black wolf was bigger, my reddish-colored wolf was still stronger. I snapped at him playfully and his eyes widened.

Through our mind link he challenged, "Come and get me, brat."

I mentally smirked and narrowed my eyes. "Will do little pup."

We bolted into the forest and began to wrestle and play fight for about five minutes when a twig snapped. My head whipped around and a growl escaped my throat.

"Is anyone patrolling?" Cody asked through mind-link.

"No, not for another 20 minutes." I said, and then I shifted back.

"Who's out there?" I called out with as much confidence as I could.

A tall, skinny figure stepped out from behind a tree and I'm nearly positive my eyes were popping out of my head.

"M-Maddie?" I stammered, eyes wide with disbelief.

"Alaska? Is that really you?" Maddie said which was no louder than a whisper, as if she too couldn't really believe her eyes.

Cody then butted in asking, "Alaska, who is this girl, and how does she even know you?"

"T-This is my old friend Maddie! She was my best friend back at my old pack!" I explained with tears threatening to fall out.

"Alaska.. I.. I thought you were dead! We all did!" Maddie exclaimed with tears pouring down her eyes. Then it happened. She looked Cody into the eyes and they both froze, unable to break the stare. At the same time they both whispered "Mate."

I smiled madly. "Oh my goddess! Maddie! Cody! This is way to perfect!" I exclaimed. Maddie giggled and Cody just nodded, shocked that he just found his mate. I put my hand in his face waving it up and down and he broke out of his trance.

"You're absolutely perfect, Maddie." Cody whispered.

Maddie blushed a deep red. "You're perfect too, Cody"

"Okay, okay, too mushy for my liking. No PDA while I'm around, got it? It's nasty." I scolded, laughing.

"Pff, no promises sis." Cody said grinning.

I rolled my eyes. Cody? Being flirty with a girl? Gross. I shuddered at the thought.

We made our way back to the pack house to explain the news to Alpha Kyle, and Maddie was instantly glared and scoffed at. I nodded to everyone to let them know this person is safe to be around and they bowed their heads before continuing with whatever they were doing. I let Cody and Maddie go off to talk with the Alpha. About four minutes passed when they walked out of the Alpha's office, Maddie grinning out of control.

"Well, I'm guessing things went well?" I asked.

"Yep! I'm an official member of the Dark Moon pack!" Maddie squealed.

I laughed. "So, what's up with the old pack? Why did you leave?"

Maddie shifted uncomfortably. "Well, um it's a long story, Alpha Daniel stepped down, and Brad Huntley took his place.

It was my turn to shift uncomfortably. Brad Huntley is my mate. Who rejected me. So that means my ex-mate is an Alpha. I managed to create a small smile. "Oh, that's great."

Maddie glanced at me with a look of sadness in her eyes. "Yeah. Well you know he misses you, right?

I laughed harshly. "Yeah that's the biggest lie in the world and you know it." There was no way he missed me, he's the one who rejected me!

"Alaska, I think we should talk.." Maddie broke off, glancing at Cody. "Alone."

Cody looked a little hurt, but nodded and muttered a 'bye' and kissed Maddie on the head before walking off. I looked at Maddie and nodded, leading her to my room. Maddie whistled looking around my room impressed.

"Wow, nice room girl!" she exclaimed.

"I know, I know. " I said proudly.

Maddie smiled, but her happy expression dropped quickly. "Anyway, Alaska, Brad hasn't been himself ever since you left. He's become a total wacko ever since you left seven years ago."

"WHAT?!" I boomed. Why in the world would he do that? I took a deep breathe and nodded muttering 'Continue.'
