The days flew by, and as the first anniversary of Skye's death approached, Chase became increasingly agitated and disturbed. The voice in his head commanded him to do more dangerous things, and the fire of guilt burned larger in his heart. The last week approached, and he barely ate and was sleep-deprived. Rider thought it might be a temporary phase and hoped Chase would get better with some time. Insomnia, voices, guilt, and hunger tortured the young police pup simultaneously.

Chase lay in his pup house, contemplating, until the voice appeared.

Voice: So, not sleeping?

It asked with feigned interest, to which Chase just shook his head a bit.

Chase: I can't sleep.

He replied weakly and softly. Tears welled up in his eyes as he envisioned Skye's smiling face. He couldn't think of anything or anyone else. Wherever he looked, he saw Skye, smiling kindly and then disappearing into the infinite.

Voice: Enough of the whining! I'm getting tired of it! Get up and survive at least these two days!

The voice shouted at him, and the boy silently sat up, looking at the picture hanging on the opposite wall. It depicted him and Skye, taken when Rider adopted her, expanding the team to four members. Chase fell in love with Skye's cute voice, pink eyes, kindness, and energy, but most of all, her entire being. Flying was her life, and it became her death. The girl never made a mistake or had an accident with significant consequences, except once.

A mix of pain and longing overwhelmed Chase from the wave of memories. He still couldn't process the death of his life's love. The voice also played a role in this, wanting to control and manipulate. A tear ran down Chase's face as he recalled the pain and emptiness. He still couldn't handle Skye's death. In this, the voice also played a part, directing and controlling.

Chase: What do you want now? What should I do?

He asked with trembling paws.

Voice: Hours of sitting at the memorial sound good, right?

Chase: Fine.

With that, he headed towards the memorial and sat in front of it. He didn't feel like doing anything, but he had to follow the voice's request to have some peace. He didn't notice his eyes turning into a fountain, crying until the first rays of the sun reached Adventure Bay. It was only then that he stopped when he felt the warmth of the sun on his fur and remembered that he still had tasks and duties to fulfill.

Chase took a deep breath and went back to the Lookout. He entered the glass door, seeing Ryder stepping out of the elevator. The young leader looked worriedly at the German Shepherd. Dark circles were under the pup's eyes, and he was almost skeletal, barely standing on his legs.

Chase: Good morning.

He broke the silence with his weak voice. Ryder stepped towards Chase, squatting down, and petting his head.

Ryder: Good morning to you. Everything okay?

He asked anxiously, already knowing the answer. Even if it seemed that Chase wasn't well, he still held himself together. But now, even he couldn't handle it. The pup leaned into his owner, relying on him. Rider hugged him and pulled the weakened pup even closer.

Chase: N...no...not.

He answered in a shaky voice. His legs couldn't support him anymore, and only Ryder's embracing hands remained for him to lean on.

Chase: Mi...miss...her. Mi...ss...ing her so...so much.

Ryder: Me too. Trust me, me too. It's time for you to rest a little, at least.

The boy wanted to say something else, but exhaustion prevailed, and sleep overcame him. Ryder felt a bit of happiness seeing him asleep, as it had been almost a week since he slept almost nothing. The boy put Chase on one of the beanbags, then woke up the others. After breakfast, everyone went out into the yard, except Ryder, who kept an eye on the restless sleeping Chase. He wasn't sure what Chase might be feeling, but he never thought he would see him like this.

Ryder: You're so strong, but not invulnerable.

He whispered almost inaudibly.

About half an hour passed when Chase woke up. To his right was a bowl of dog food from which he ate a little. Then he looked around and noticed Ryder making a call. The next moment, Ryder's voice echoed from his badge.

Rider: PAW Patrol, to the Lookout!

Pups: Ryder need's us!

The pups started running towards the elevator. Meanwhile, Chase tried to stand on his four weakened paws, struggling a bit. The pups took their places in the elevator, and eventually, Marshall also tumbled in, upsetting everyone. Chase successfully sat up, watching the performance.

Marshall: I'm okay!

He declared joyfully, making the pups burst into laughter. The elevator door closed, and Chase suddenly felt alone. He didn't know what to do, as his work was the last thing that gave meaning to his existence. Tears filled his eyes as he watched the elevator.

Voice: Write a letter.

The sentence echoed in his mind. He slowly entered his pup house and began to write. A letter apologizing to everyone. He spent the whole day in his pup house.

The next morning, with the letter in his mouth, Chase stepped out of his pup house, then headed for the Lookout door. Next to the door, he affixed the letter, combining Skye's and his own badges to create a shape resembling a heart. He sighed and set off towards the edge of the peninsula, to a somewhat secluded place. Ryder showed him this place when they were alone. When he got together with Skye, he showed it to her. Later, whenever they sought solitude, they always came here.

Chase sat on the edge and stared at the calm blue sea. He enjoyed the gentle breeze and didn't think about anything. Neither good nor bad.

Ryder found it strange that Chase wasn't anywhere, so he went out in front of the Lookout. He looked around and noticed the letter and the two badges. With a sudden move, he took them off the wall and started reading. His eyes widened, filling with tears.

Chase sat on the edge, smiling.

Voice: Do it.

It whispered.

Ryder and the pups quickly and systematically set out to find Chase. Ryder was afraid. Afraid of losing another team member. Zuma went on the water with his hovercraft. Szelli flew with her helicopter, but by the time she arrived, Chase was no longer there. Zuma stopped his vehicle and jumped into the water. At that moment, Ryder arrived, heading on the water.

Ryder sat in the graveyard, watching the grave with two names and two inscriptions. "Here lies Skye and Chase." "Different if you love to fly, or your life is flying." And. "The paw of the law always finds justice."

He held a letter in his hands. "I don't know where to start. Since Skye died, I blame myself because if I were faster, I could have saved her. With this letter, I just want to apologize. I'm sorry for not fulfilling my duties properly and being unable to protect a team member. I regret everything I did in the past month. But the voice in my head wouldn't leave me alone. It tortured me! I'm sorry I didn't talk about it, but I didn't want to go back there. I also apologize for being a burden. But now, you don't have to worry about it. Goodbye! Chase."
