"Scooter Grubbs?" Amelia asked in shock.
"Yeah! Crazy right!" Sarah spoke as she plopped down on Amelia's bed.
"Someone just found his body washed up on the shore. You know his wife came by our house asking about him earlier today... I can't believe he's dead." Sarah spoke.
"Sarah, you didn't even know him. I don't know why you're acting like he was your uncle or something." Joan spoke as she walked out of Amelia's closet.
She was holding up a dress. "Aimee, can I borrow this? All my clothes look like crap on me now."
Amelia barely looked up from where she stood by her vanity mirror, a mascara brush in her hands.
"Yeah, sure take whatever you want." Amelia spoke trying to keep her voice level.
The current topic of conversation was making her feel sick.
"Hey Scooter worked for my dad sometimes." Sarah spoke defensively as she twirled her hair in between her forefinger and thumb. "And he was helping me with storm watch the night before he died!"
"Gosh the storm must have gotten him." Quin spoke. She was standing in front of the full body mirror in the other corner of the room fluffing up her hair.
"Hey Aimee, got any styling mousse?"
Amelia hadn't realised how heavy her breathing had become or how hard she had been pressing her fingernails into her palms.
She looked up brought back to reality by Quin's voice.
"Right here." She announced picking up the green bottle and tossed it to Quin.
Quin who was a stellar athlete caught it with no trouble.
"You look smoking!" Sarah commented when Amelia turned around.
Amelia blushed. She wore a white cropped top with full sleeves that showed off her midriff and blue denim shorts careful that they were long enough to cover her too thighs.
"I bet Ash won't be able to keep his eyes off of you." Quin teased as she smoothed out her wild curls into a low ponytail.
"Like he ever does." Sarah commented.
Amelia smiled at her friends trying to match their mood.
She had told herself she had to at least pretend to smile and have fun tonight.
She needed to make up for being a downer the last two times she had been around them.
If she kept this up it would only be a matter of time until they didn't want to be around her anymore.
"What do you guys think?" Joan came out of Amelia's walk in closet wearing a velvet fitted strappy blue dress.
"Hot stuff alert!" Meredith cheered as she jumped off Amelia's bed. "Come on, sit, I'll do your hair."
Amelia studied Joan.
The girl raised her brows. "Something wrong, boo?"
"Uh, no." Amelia spoke tearing her eyes off the dress. "It's just that... uhm -"
She smiled to herself. "That's the dress I wore on my first date with Ash."
"Oh." Joan looked down at the dress. "Crap I'm sorry, if it's sentimental I can totally take it off."
"Oh no." Amelia spoke quickly.
Ashton had taken her out on a picnic. It was so sweet. He had gotten all her favourite snacks and candy. They had talked and laughed... Amelia had been so happy.
