Alright, Vinny, calm down. It’s just tutoring, right? But oh my gosh, it’s Kevin Diaz! The king of cool, the guy whose mere smile could probably cause a traffic jam! When he asked me to tutor him, I thought I was hearing things. Like, “Are you sure you don’t want to ask the girl who actually knows how to use a textbook?”
Nervous laugh!
And now I’m here, standing in front of his house door, and my stomach feels like it’s auditioning for a circus act. Seriously, how am I supposed to tutor someone while trying not to faint? What if I get there and he’s not alone? What if his friends are there, ready to roast me like a marshmallow at a campfire? “Oh look, it’s Vinny, the girl who can’t even find the square root of her own confidence!”
And can we talk about my brain for a second? I swear, it has a talent for ruining my mood. Just when I think I’m ready to be all chill and collected, it’s like, “What if his mom thinks you’re his girlfriend? And what if she starts asking about your favorite wedding colors over nachos?” Thanks, brain. Super helpful.
But seriously, what if he really is alone? Just the two of us? Cue the awkward silence that would put even a mime to shame. Will I talk too much? Will he think I’m a total dork? (Sigh) Okay, that one’s probably true, but still!
And don’t even get me started on the pressure! What if he flunks his next test because I couldn’t explain ionic bonds without accidentally bonding with my own embarrassment? “Hey, Kevin, sorry you didn’t pass the test; my bad for being the worst tutor ever!”
But maybe, just maybe, this could be a good thing. I mean, who wouldn’t want to impress Kevin while explaining how to break down a chemical equation? It’s like a two-for-one deal: Chemistry and flirting!
Okay, just focus, Vinny. Deep breaths. Vinny, it will be alright! Before I turn into a walking anxiety attack!
I press the door bell!!!
