The feeling of Levi's lips against her made Reinae's head spin for more than one reason. The rational part of her mind struggled to get her to push him away, to punch him in the face, to send a knee to his crotch, but all she did was open her mouth, feeling his tongue against her own. She could sense the internal war he fought, the clenched fist resting on the door beside her head, his hand on her hip squeezing hard enough for Reinae to wince. Nevertheless, he didn't back away; he only kissed her harder, letting out all the frustration that had been building up for god knows how long.

Her hand found the door handle, and they staggered inside, never breaking apart. Their hands got busy, Reinae's sliding into his hair, his grabbing her left thigh and lifting her leg, making it possible for him to press up against her.

It was the sound that left Reinae's mouth at the slight friction between her thighs that made them both snap back to reality. Their kiss broke off, and for a moment, they looked at each other with wide eyes, both confused and shocked by what they did. The second later, Levi let go of her, stepping two steps back. They both panted, staring at one another with overwhelming, indescribable emotions.

Levi opened his mouth, knowing he should say something, but was at a loss for words. Before he could mutter an apology or explanation, Reinae grabbed the door handle, leaving Levi alone in her room.

     What the fuck.

That sentence repeatedly echoed through Reinae's mind as she absentmindedly walked, not knowing where she was going. Somehow ending up at the top of Wall Rose in Trost, she sat on its edge, pulling out the little bag with Atherpetal leaves. She rolled the cigarette with shaking hands only to realize she had no matches to light it. In frustration, she threw the cigarette off the wall.

Reinae was never the one to give in to temptations. Not that she even knew there were any temptations when it came to the man she nothing but hated. Every decision to go into someone's bed was always made on purpose. Always a means to escape whatever she refused to feel. Always a desperate attempt to feel something good.

That's why she couldn't realize what possessed her to indulge in that kiss, to melt into it like she never did before. The feeling of his tongue against hers still lingered, the way he was so close to her, his one hand grabbing onto her thigh with raw emotion but the other placed on the back of her neck so gently it made her shiver.

A short laugh escaped her mouth, her head shaking with disbelief. Ironically, she had a gift for sensing people's emotions and feeling their thoughts but had absolutely no clue what was going on in her heart or Levi's.

This is frustration. Agitation. Anger. Nothing else, she thought to herself. It was the best way to understand the clenching feeling in her chest.

Not making eye contact at training. Always sitting on the opposite side of the Mess Hall during meals. One syllable replies to orders and questions. Sleeping around even more than usual. Smoking. Drinking. That was what Reinae did to try to get Levi off her mind.

Everyone noticed something was very wrong between them. The atmosphere in the squad was depressing, despite Reinae acting like her usual self whenever Levi was not around. Jasper and Aiden schemed what the bastard did to her and how to beat his ass properly. Mila lost all patience, clearly the only one seeing that the tension wasn't hatred but something completely different, and marked Reinae as a 'stubborn repudiated idiot'.

Nightmares were no strangers to Rei. But when she woke up with a racing heart after dreaming of Levi's touch night after night, she was on the verge of losing it. That's why she spent her days finding men and women she could spend the night with so she didn't have to go to her room where everything she saw was the wall Levi had her pressed against.

There was a man she slept with quite some times after coming to the Scouts. Carter. He knew how to make her think about nothing but him, so he had been her go-to for the past three weeks.

"Leaving again?" Carter said from the bed while Reinae put on her clothes.

"Do you expect that we cuddle?" she said flatly.

     "We could."

"Carter, I really do appreciate you, but I only need you to do what you do best."

"And that's, what, screwing you like there's no tomorrow?" he asked, grinning with cute dimples on his cheeks.

"Exactly. So let's stick to that."

     "Don't you want something more?"

Carter's question caught her off guard. She froze for a moment, mid-putting on her shoes, then stood up, brushing her fingers through her hair. Clearly, she was ignoring his question, so Carter stood up, still only in his briefs, the candle on the table throwing light on his muscular body.

"Princess, I'm not stupid," he said, smiling, but his eyes were serious. "It's clear you're running away from something. It will catch up to you sooner or later."

"Since when are you this all-knowing?" Reinae said sarcastically. Carter rolled his eyes, placing a kiss on her forehead, to which she grimaced.

"Whoever the dude is, just talk to him, okay?"

Reinae only shrugged and walked out to the hallway. It's not like she didn't know Carter was right. She just didn't see the point in talking to Levi. The weird infatuation between them would pass sooner or later. She just had to keep her distance and wait.

She only realized she had taken the path to her room past Levi's when his door opened. A petite, beautiful woman shyly smiled at Reinae as she closed his door behind her. She nervously tried to straighten the mess her curly blonde hair was with one hand, holding her jacket with the Garrison Regiment emblem in the other. Her flushed face was a clear tell of what she was doing in that room.

Rei watched the woman walk down the hallway until she turned the corner. Nothing she could say to herself could persuade her that the erosive, heavy feeling in her stomach wasn't what she knew it was—jealousy.

Something within her refused to accept it, and she held onto it for dear life to prevent herself from barging into Levi's room and confronting him about doing something he had every right to do. Who was she to judge him for sleeping around when she was doing the exact same? She ought to be happy about it. It meant that their kiss was nothing more than a mistake.
