"Who does he think he is?"

     Punch.

"Who the fuck does he think he is, calling me a whore?!"

     Another punch.

"He's so far gone in his pitiful, depressive tight-up act he thinks other people can't fucking enjoy ourselves?"

     Punch.

"He's lucky I didn't punch that condescending expression right off his fucking face."

     Punch. Punch. Punch.

"Why do I bother trying to be nice to him?!"

     Punch. Punch.

"He deserves nothing else than a fucking kick in his damned balls!"

Reinae punched the punching bag so hard it flew off its hook. She walked towards and kicked it, sending it flying fifteen away. Her breathing was heavy, her eyes practically glowing with anger.

"Em... I would say he was jealous," Mila said from where she was sitting on the ground, looking from the poor punching bag back to Reinae.

"Jealous?!" Reinae spat out, turning to her friend, who winced when those hateful eyes landed on her.

     "Yeah, like... jealous, you know?"

"That man is incapable of feeling affection towards a person, therefore unable to even feel jealousy," the redhead hissed, removing the bandages around her hands.

"Don't you think it's weird how he only cooperates in banter with you? How you're the only one who can bring up any kind of reaction from him? How he tries to get along with you when he never cares for such- "

"He's trying to get on my fucking nerves, that's what he's doing!" Reinae interrupted Mila. "And he's damned successful at it."

     "That's not my point—"

"If he has fucking blue balls because no sane woman would fuck his repulsively frowning face, he can go be bother someone else and not me because the only thing I'll do is cut those balls right off!"

Reinae was fussing like an angry toddler, throwing her hands around in frustration. Mila only watched her with an annoyed expression, sighing.

"You're both just straight-up dumb," she muttered to herself.

A young scout fearfully approached her and Rei, who looked like an angry ball of fire, spitting curses left and right.

"Em—" he tried and was immediately cut off by Reinae.

"What do you want?" she barked at him, making him flinch.

"Em, you were called to Captain Levi's office... "

Reinae scoffed, then laughed, but her eyes filled with cold hatred.

"Tell that midget of a man that he can go readjust the stick up his ass and go fuck himself," she said. The poor guy just fearfully glanced at Mila, who apologetically shrugged. "Use those exact words," Reinae ordered with a voice cut like a dagger. "If you don't, I'll find you and stick something up your ass, understand?"

The boy fearfully nodded, rushing back to the main building, away from Rei's intimidating figure.

     "Poor guy," Mila sighed.

     "Poor guy," Mila sighed

"She said... what?" Levi slowly let out through clenched teeth.

The boy before him was on the verge of tears, sweating profusely. He couldn't decide if Reinae's menacing glare or Levi's made him want to sink into the ground more.

"Please don't make me repeat it, sir," he begged with a shaking voice.

Levi's nostrils flared, and he dismissed him with a wave of a hand. He was mad. Mad at himself for losing his cool the night before and for even trying to call Reinae in to make amends. He was mad at her, too. Why, he didn't know. But the agitation he had felt since he met her had become something consuming that settled in his chest. And he blamed her for it.

He spent the day unable to get her out of his head. He couldn't focus on paperwork, constantly becoming agitated whenever her face wandered into his mind. When he finally felt calm enough to go to the Mess Hall for dinner, seeing her sitting annoyingly close to Eld brought out his frustrations all over again. He was next to her table before he realized it.

"You were called into my office, Agnar," he said, failing to control the anger in his voice.

Reinae didn't as much as look up at him. She stabbed a potato with unnecessary force, bringing it to her mouth.

"And you were often told to lower your ego to suit your height, but here we are."

The table froze, eyes glancing from her to Levi, wondering why their attitudes suddenly returned to ones from a year ago.

Levi struggled to find words that weren't straight-up insulting, aware both of them were too close to blowing up.

"Do try and get over yourself enough to come after dinner," he squeezed through a clenched jaw.

"Oh, I'll come," Reinae said, standing up. She looked him straight in the eye, her stare cold and full of spite. "But I won't be anywhere near your dick when it happens."

Even Jasper gasped, warningly whispering her name. Levi was alarmingly still, not even reacting when Reinae walked around him towards the door leading up to the sleeping quarters.

Don't do it, he thought, taking controlled breaths through his nose. Don't give her the satisfaction. She has nothing on me. Nothing.

That consuming feeling mixed with indescribable anger flared up in his chest, and he turned on his heel towards where Reinae's red hair disappeared behind the door.

     Fucking nothing.

He caught up to her just as she reached for the door of her room. As if she was anticipating his hand going for her arm, she moved before he touched her, throwing him against the opposite wall.

"You don't want to touch me," she hissed. "Whores are dirty."

Levi scoffed. "One would think a woman who's been through the shit you've been through wouldn't be fazed by a simple insult," he threw back at her, his demeanor mirroring the anger of Rei's.

"You don't know shit about me, so stop pretending you do."

"You're not all that complicated, you know?" Levi said, moving closer to her with a frown of disgust. "All underground bastards are the same."

"And that makes you different, how?!" she spat.

"It doesn't!" he growled at her.

Reinae blinked, confusion wondering into her eyes.

"So stop acting like such a petty damned victim, thinking you're so misunderstood when you can't understand shit about those around you!"

"I understand everyone but you!" she snapped back. "You're simply beyond comprehension! I've tried to be civil with you and not for your sake or mine. And still, all I want is to punch you in the face! So just leave me the fuck alone!"

"I would like nothing more, believe me," he snarled.

     "So what's fucking stopping you?!"

Her question resonated in his head. Those green eyes burned into him with that spite, defiance, and hatred he so often saw staring at him. Her rose lips were shivering with the heaviness of her angry panting. It took Levi exactly one glance at them to realize the answer to Reinae's question.

The shift in her eyes mirrored Levi's as if she could feel what he was thinking. With a clenched fist, Levi held onto the last pieces of reason that prevented him from doing something he'd most definitely regret. Seeing Reinae's gaze lower to his lips was the last thing he registered before he had her pressed against the door.
