While Ramonda talked with Tony, the others sat in one of the many studies the palace held. Bucky just sat, staring out over the Wakandan landscape through the window. Steve paced, feeling cooped up and wanting to run. Meanwhile, Arianna was bored.

"I'm starving," she said. "I'm going to check on breakfast."

With that, she left. The two men were silent for a few minutes before the emotions got too much for Bucky. His world was falling apart around him and he couldn't stop it.

"I can't live with the lies and secrets again," he said, his voice cracking. "I thought I was done with all that."

Steve sighed. Things between him and Bucky were changed now that they both had been tortured by HYDRA. Steve knew it was his fault. But his best friend needed him, and if there was a chance of them getting back to where they were before he went back in time, he had to try and act like the rift wasn't there.

"I understand, Buck," Steve replied.

Bucky jumped up, upset as he responded, "You don't have a fucking clue! I had seventy years of lies thrown at me! The only thing you have is Ari!"

Steve matched Bucky's anger. "And I can't stop seeing my hands on her throat!" He tried to take a breath to calm down. "I can't tell her that I want my hand there and the guilt I have for it. None of it."

Bucky's temper cooled but devastation set in. "You can just tell her! Me, I might lose my family, Steve! Tony did the one thing I never wanted between us. He lied."

"You can fix it. I can't."

Bucky wiped away his tears. "I don't know how when all I feel is betrayed."

Both super soldiers sat in silence. Bucky wanted Tony there to hold him and make everything better again, but he didn't want to be in the same room as him at the same time. Steve wanted a drink, to drown out the guilt he held.

While their minds were in overdrive, Arianna returned and announced, "Food's done."

"I'll go check it out," Bucky said as he stood to leave.

Arianna watched the brunette man walk out before turning to Steve. "What was-"

Steve moved some hair behind her ear. He had to get himself straight and they had to come to an understanding about what was brewing between them.

"Ari," he said in a soft tone, "we need to talk."

Her heart sank.
