Siren's Curse

Chapter 11

Bryan's POV

Nights always went the same way for everyone in the Anubis household.

I'd probably be  on the same schedule, but due to being a siren, I didn't need to do some of the things they did.

Tonight wasn't any different, they'd eat dinner, get ready for bed, Inpu and I would read until we finished a chapter of what we were reading, then we'd go to bed.

I thought it would be a peaceful night since nothing really happened in the day, but I must have been wrong because early in the morning, Helios woke me up and I heard yelling.

From what I could tell, it was Anubis who was yelling, but I wasn't fully sure what he was yelling at.

Eventually, I saw a shadowy figure run past the part of the tank that looked to the dinning room and a few windows.

Knowing the guy was likely a thief, I began to debate what I should do.

As I was thinking, I noticed he was getting closer and closer to opening the window, so out of panic I began to use my siren song.

I was able to direct the guy to the balcony that overlooked the tank, and my instincts kicked in and I began to drown the guy.

My full siren form was in full view of whoever was looking into the tank, but I couldn't stop myself, so once I was able to get some of my venom in, I realized what happened.

It wasn't even like I could do anything once I realized what happened, I have a rapid effect venom, so there was nothing I could do.

I went back to my other siren form and quickly started to look around, hoping no one saw, but when I looked over in the direction I pulled the guy from, I saw Anubis standing there.

All I could do was swim over to my hide and try to not be seen.

Something was put in the water and I saw the body being dragged up, so I knew Anubis was trying to deal with it, so I just let him and stayed out of the way.

Not long after the body was removed, I heard taps at the top of the water and sent Helios up to tell me who it was despite the fact I knew who it was.

Helios came back quickly and told me what I already knew, so I quickly swam up so I could deal with the talking I knew was coming.

"Are you ok?"

"Why are you asking me, I clearly was able to fend for myself" 

"Because I don't know if he attacked you first or if you attacked him because he broke in"

"He would've gotten away if I didn't act fast, I just didn't have enough reaction time to tell what the right course of action would be, so I went off siren instincts"

"Well, you made the right choice to do it"

"What do you mean?"

"He's been sneaking into houses, stealing all valuables they can find, then killing the residents, had Izanami not woken me up, he likely would've killed her and me, then you likely would've still ended up killing him"

"But still, I killed someone, that doesn't seem like something I should've done"

"While normally I would agree, you went off instincts in a case you knew could end bad, and while I don't agree with your tactics, he would've been killed anyways for him crimes"

"Does anyone need to know about happened?"

"I will need to bring it up to law enforcement, but they know there is a siren here, so as long as he looks mangled like other siren victims, they won't do anything to you"

"But I didn't eat, I just gave a small bite and let my venom kill him"

"Just go to bed, I'll deal with it, as long as its dealt with soon, this doesn't need to be brought up again"

I just nodded and went back to where I normally hid so I could go to sleep.

The next morning came quickly and all I wanted to do was hide.

After a bit, Inpu knocked on the glass to say good morning, but I didn't want to come out since I still had some blood on my fangs.

He placed his bag next to the tank and started to look around for me, but Helios gave me away because he went to say hi.

Magnus saw him looking for me and started to knock on the glass.

"Are you sure he didn't go for a morning walk? He does seem to like the morning sun" [Magnus]

"He has to be, he never leaves without informing someone or leaving a note, I know he has to be in there" [Inpu]

"Why would he need to hide, its not like he does anything during the night" [Magnus]

"Not true, there are times I've had to feed him late at night because his poison can make him hungry" [Inpu]

"But he'd wake you up for that, he could always be doing something around the house, let's go take a look around the house" [Magnus]

I stuck my head out a bit because I heard taps at the top of the tank which normally meant something would be thrown in.

Inpu clearly saw me when I stuck my head out because he tapped and got my attention.

"Hey, silly, whatcha doing" [Inpu]

"Nothing worth saying, do you need something?" [Bryan]

"Why are you hiding this morning, you normally come out right away in the morning" [Magnus]

"I'm just a bit tired today, that and I'm hungry, my venom is running a bit low so I need a good amount of liquid and food" [Bryan]

"Did you really use that much? I thought you didn't need to use a whole lot" [Inpu]

"I didn't, my venom just needs time to refill because I rarely use it" [Bryan]

"Magnus, you can start going, I'll meet you there" [Inpu]

All Magnus did was nod before leaving the room.

Inpu just sat next to the tank and stared at me.

"Are you trying to admire my beauty or something?"

"No, I'm trying to figure out what's wrong, you only avoid questions if you think you did something wrong or if you recently heard some bad news"

"Its nothing you need to worry about"

"But it is, we have till the end of the week until we're married, I want to share your burdens so I can help you, but I can't do anything if you don't tell me"

"I accidently killed someone last night in front of your father"

"I'm sorry, go back for a bit, an explanation is needed"

"Someone broke in last night, so out of fear that something bad would happen to you, I went full siren mode and killed him, I didn't eat at all, just let my venom enter his body, but he was dead in seconds" 

"Oh, honey, you must have been scared"

"What else was I meant to do, it keeps replaying in my mind, but I can't tell what I should've done because my mind went into my siren mindset and I couldn't think straight"

"Well it doesn't help that you aren't straight"

"Inpu-"

"Hey, you could use a joke right now, there probably wasn't much you would've been able to do differently, the fact that my safety was on your mind over your own is the only thing I would've told you to change"

I just leaned my head on the glass a bit before we heard Anubis yell at Inpu from the other room.

He realized he had to go to school, so Inpu grabbed his bag, said bye to me, and left for school.
