TW - Mention of miscarriage

Maya exhaled as she saw how the time moved on and on while she had nervously waited to hear back from the doctors. She knew what was happening to Riley; she was having a miscarriage. Five minutes away from the hospital, Riley started to have some major cramping that wasn't helping the situation and that also made Maya think that everything what the doctor would tell her would just be finalizing it. She saw as  man came walking out and came walking towards her.

"How is she?" Maya asked jumping up.

"Ms. Matthews is going to be fine, but, I'm afraid she did suffer a miscarriage," he said as Maya nodded.

"Can I see her?" Maya asked as he nodded.

"Of course, just keep it short," he said as Maya went into the room.

She saw as Riley was laying in the bed, her eyes bloodshot red, and her fiddling with her fingers. Maya cleared her throat as Riley attempted to smile at her best friend.

"You don't have to pretend, Riley," Maya said as she sat down next to her friend on the bed.

"At least it's over now," Riley admitted trying to sound positive.

"You don't have to sound positive, honey. This is a horrible thing that happened to you," Maya said as Riley shook her head.

"Mason never wanted another kid," Riley said as tears started to stream down her face.

"One day he will. One day he will," Maya said as she hugged her best friend allowing the tears to stream down her face.

"It hurts, Maya. It hurts so much," Riley sobbed as Maya held her tighter feeling tears streaming from her own eyes.

"I know," Maya said as she cleared her voice. "I know."

Maya looked as she walked in through the apartment and Layla immediately ran to her. Maya had picked her up, kissing her daughter, and holding her tightly against her skin. She had smiled and put her back down on the ground when she saw her husband walking out of a bedroom.

"Kayden and Jace are both asleep, but this one didn't wanna go to bed until she saw her mama. So did I," Josh said as he hugged Maya.

Maya held Josh slightly tighter than she always did. They heard how Layla ran around for a bit before she had sat down and started to play with some blocks.

"How's Riley?" Josh asked as Maya exhaled.

"Devastated. She wanted to have this baby so badly and she was finally accepting the fact that she and Mason were over. And now... It's not nice to see your best friend in so much pain," Maya said.

"She's going to be okay," Josh said as Maya smiled.

"I truly hope so. Otherwise things are going to get tough. This made me think so much about how everything is changing way too fast and if I can have it any other way, I would chose to go down this path over and over again with you and the kids," Maya said.

"So would I. We did it young but I think that's the best way to do it. Kayden, Jace, and Layla are lucky to have you as their mom," Josh said as he smiled. "And Noah is also going to be extremely lucky to have such a wonderful mother."

"Maybe we all can consider ourselves lucky," Maya said.
