The Owl House's living room was filled with a variety of plants. Luz examined the center of a flower with her magnifying glass. She was trying to learn the plant glyph while Bijou was reading about plant magic in her magic book.
"Come on, work this time!" Luz urged, tapping the page. She gasped when a little bloom appeared. "Yes! Check it out, King. My glyph skills are blossoming."
"Uh-huh," Bijou said as she concentrated on her plant spell, which resulted in a small shrub growing from the soil-filled pot.
"Yes!" She pumped her fists.
"You think that's impressive? Check this out!" King held Luz's phone as the two girls joined him. "Two warriors battling to the death."
He was staring at a video of two kittens, one of which had fallen onto its back. Luz stared up at the open gateway door. Because the Boiling Isles lacked internet access, they were forced to rely on a cord that connected them to the rest of humanity.
"Ah, I see we're getting enough Wi-Fi through the portal for cat videos."
"Yeah, Eda and I were able to find a house that is mostly empty during the day to plug in the cord through their own server," Hazel said to her as he hopped onto the couch.
"Senseless violence," King cheered. "Yes, attack! Death is your god!"
"I regret teaching you about the internet," Luz said to him.
"Heh! What possible regrets could come from the internet? Oh, did you know the Earth is actually flat?"
"Yep, I don't think so," Bijou corrected King, as Luz grabbed her phone back.
It vibrated, and she checked for a text message from her mother. Her eyes widened at this.
It stated, "How is camp today, cariño?" A love emoji was next, followed by 'Mama.' Luz hesitated and contemplated a simple response before responding with a thumbs up emoji. "Good enough."
"Ah, a severed hand. Perfect response," King praised her.
Luz laid down on the couch, furious, and placed a pillow over her face. "What am I supposed to say? 'Hey Mom, not at camp actually. I'm in the Demon Realm learning to be a witch. Also, did you know demons and magic are real?' She. Will. End me!"
"At least you have a valid excuse for being here," Bijou said, frowning slightly. "I haven't informed my mother where I am, and if I do, she will never be the same again."
"Wait, how did you even come here anyway?" Luz asked.
"I was wondering about that, too," Hazel chimed in.
"Same way you did, Luz, but with no Reality Check Summer Camp."
"Nah, they'd be freaked out by our world anyway, so actually, by keeping the truth from them, you're doing them a favor," King tried to console them.
"Hmm, the demon at my shoulder makes a good point," Luz agreed.
"We'll just have to see how long it holds up..." Bijou squeezed her nose.
"Always trust a shoulder demon!" King snatched Luz's phone and continued watching cat videos.
The door opened, revealing Hooty.
"Hoot hoot, Luz and Bijou! It's time to fill those darling little heads of yours with..." He coughed up several books. "Mm-hm, delicious knowledge."
Gus then glanced inside the room.
"Please hurry," he implored quietly.
Willow peered in next, frowning. "The more I look at him, the more uncomfortable I get."
