Arthur was determined to be a really useful engine. It has been days since his first accident on Sodor that also broke his spotless record. Arthur was hoping to redeem himself to the Fat Controller.
One evening at the sheds. The engines were resting after another hard day's work. Just then, the Fat Controller arrived.
"Evening engines." he then turns to Gordon. "Gordon, you did very well on the Express. But tomorrow, I want you to go to the works for a check-up."
Gordon was about to retort until he stopped and thought about it. He had been making some squeaky noise from his pistons whenever he reached his top high speed.
"Very well sir but who will pull the express?" Gordon asked, curious.
"I decided to put James on the express until you return. I hope you don't mind that James"
"Not at all, sir!" James said, excited.
Excellent, the rest of you have you're routine as normal. Have a good night." With that, he hops into his car and drives off.
Not even after he disappeared, James started his boasting, much to the annoyance of the other engines.
Just then, Arthur arrived. He finished shunting some trucks for the Flying Kipper so he has a fishy smell to him.
"Evening all, anything new happened?"
"The Fat Controller put James to pull the express and now he won't stop talking about it." Thomas said, irritated.
"Oh, shame I can't be here sooner. I would love to pull the express. I haven't pulled one since my days on the mainland"
James overheard this and scoffed. "You. Why would The Fat Controller choose an engine that made an accident on the first day!" James said as he sniffed in disgust "Not to mention smelly."
Arthur looks down sadly. The others felt sorry for him. They look crossly at James as he rolls inside the sheds for a good night's sleep.
