"Your father is very unhappy, my lady..." My handmaid announced as she undressed me. I stared in the mirror at myself. My dark brown hair lay flat in front of my shoulders, and the two small braids that wrapped around the top of my head were stuck firmly in place by many pins. I began to pull the pins out, annoyed with the pain on my scalp they caused. Why did I need to be so stubborn? My father only wanted one thing from me, my entire life-to continue our species. Why was that so hard for me?
My handmaid undid my corset and I felt like I could breathe again. The pressure my father continued to put on me was restricting.
"I am aware. I'll find a lord to wed in the next year." I falsely promised. I had no intention of doing so.
A knock on my chamber door catches both of our attention. As I was still decent and mostly clothed, my handmaid approached the door. She cracked it open enough for her to speak to the guest but not enough for them to see my state of undressing. Without warning, the door is opened fully. I turn my head back to the mirror, staring at my appearance, trying to see if I could use anything to cover myself. Before I was able to succeed in that, a deep English voice broke the silence. "My apologies, my lady."
I turned to face the owner of the voice, Niklaus. A small smile grew on my face. He entered my chambers slowly and my handmaid exited, shutting the door behind her.
"How- Why did she let you in? I am indecent..." I whispered to the gorgeous man. I stepped away from the mirror in front of me, grabbing the robe that lay on the edge of my bed and wrapping it around me.
"Again. I apologize."
"What can I do for you, my lord?" I said politely as I approached him. I smiled and he returned it with his own.
"My siblings and I are having some trouble...finding someone. Someone important in succeeding our business here." He spoke softly, his grin never leaving his face.
"You would like my help?"
"If you would be so generous to offer it."
"What is their name? I will see what I can do."
"Elizabeth Bennett." His smile faded slightly as he muttered her name. I frowned at the mention of the Bennett Witch.
"I apologize. I cannot help you find her. She is gone." I mumbled as I stepped closer to him. "I think you should get going now. I wish I could have been more help."
He inched closer, so close I could feel his breath on my forehead. His hands reached up and grazed my cheeks before holding the sides of my head. I did not know what to think but my heart raced.
"Where is Elizabeth Bennett?" Niklaus demanded in a soft voice. His pupils pulsed and fear shot through me, Vampire.
"She was banished," I said in a monotone, pretending his compulsion was working.
"Where was she banished to?"
"I do not know."
"Why was she banished?"
"She was a Witch. My father could not let her stay."
"Why was she not burned?"
"She was a friend. She helped us. My father was merciful when our people found out her secret."
"Would your father know where she went?"
"Yes." He smiled at my word.
"You will forget I visited your chambers this evening and what we spoke of."
