will you look at this..." The familiar front page of today's newspaper that Dean Singh threw at the table in the staff common room stared at them. "I don't understand what is happening in this college and why haven't you done anything about it?"
"Well what do you want us to do about it?" Prof. Sinha asked.
"We should have stopped it. I agree with Dean sir." Mr. Banarjee said.
"They are 17 most of them are 18. They are allowed to do whatever with their free time." Sambhavita said.
"Ee... Ami jani Sambhavita, you will take their side only but this isn't what they are supposed to do. Think what it makes us look like?" Mr. Banarjee.
"Someone have to be the devil's advocate right sir? Ap to karne se rahe." Sambhavita said smiling to her senior. "Agar staff room main har koi administration ke sath ho gaya to it will become Adminstration vs Students. And no one wants that."
"I think they should be reprimanded for what they are doing." Mrs. Varma the middle-aged history professor said.
"On what basis mam, they aren't doing anything wrong according to university rules. They aren't cutting classes, turning assignments late, not participating in classes. Because they are doing whatever they are doing in their free time is not approved by us, I'm sorry that isn't the ground for punishments. And I like to remind you that are the brightest students of this batch." Sambhavita said to which Mrs. Varma made a face, which was evident that she isn't very fond of the younger woman.
"The article asks question to us as well. Are we with them? Don't you think it is also pointing fingers at our credibility to control our students?" Dean asked sharply. And everyone fall silent for a minute before sambhavita said
"Then let's make it our job."
"What do you mean? How?" Mr. Banarjee asked.
"They are all criminology students and this is a criminal case. Why don't we call it their extracurricular activity. In this way, we will look in charge and this will be some extra cushion for their college letters."
"Those ivy leagues do look for these extra mirch masala..." Dean said sitting down and turning to Sambhavita.
"We haven't able to crack one in last 3 years in row sir."
"You are right. Aur is sal jisse ummid thi wohi nai Raha. Maybe one of these can crack with this extra achivement on their cover letter." Dean said thinking.
"But sir every extracurricular activity should be over seen by a teacher. Kiske pas time hai iss nonsense ke liye." Mrs. Varma said.
"Ok. I'll do it. They are from my department anyways and I have plenty of time in my hand to spare." Sambhavita said.
"Han kyu nai. Pati ko to chhod ke agayi aur kya kaam hoga wese vi." Mrs. Varma said in a somewhat whispering tone but it was heard by everyone.
"Exactly ma'am. Isliye to keh Rahi hun responsibilities bant lete hain. Aap apna Ghar sambhaliye, students ko main sambhal lungi." Sambhavita said which made her go red in the face. "Excuse me." She said before leaving the room.
