I don't understand if Taran and Neerav both get the same amount, how Taran's is low?"Sambhavita asked sitting down on the couch after talking to the finance department of college. She looked over to her kitchen where Mr. Thakur was making tea. He had taken off his coat and his white dress shirt was flooded from the sleeves to show his strong and vainy forearm. With the top two buttons undone, he was looking as relaxed as you can in a formal outfit.
"You don't have to make tea you know?" She said to him.
"Yah I do. And I didn't say Taran's funds were less than Neerav." He said pouring tea in two cups.
"To kya dono ke Kam hain?" She asked, taking the cup he handed her.
"Yes. The funds Taran got is exactly the one fourth of the total amount of money that was supposed to be for the scholarship students." He said as he sat down next to her.
"I don't understand." Sambhavita asked turning to him.
"Think Sambhavita! How it is exactly one fourth?"
"There supposed to be 4 scholarship students." It hit her.
"Bingo."
"But this year... Or last year. The student body was it's full strength. Ek vi seat Khali nai thi. Iska matlab 2 scholarship students ki seat donation admition students ko di gayi hai. It's a bigger scam than I thought. Aur Dean Singh is involved in his. Oh God, this is the inequality Taran was hinting at.... He killed him?"
"Sambhavita I hope you know, I can't get involved directly. Dean singh and the college have a great influence in the region and elections are coming."
"I know." She said absentmindedly.
"Also... With that in mind, I'll do anything you ask me off" this time she looked up at him. He pushed her hair away from her neck to show a cut mark which he traced with his finger first then hold the side of her neck firmly before confirming "anything "
Sambhavita leaned to his hand and said "I need proof of Dean's scam."
"I'll try to get it."
What ever happening wasn't healthy for sure. But she couldn't ask for anything better than this either. He left soon after they finished the tea and Sambhavita took out a box full of her dead son's things and cried to sleep. Sanjeet waited for his dad to come home so he could ask him about the phone call but he came extremely late and he couldn't see him that day. The next day he went to college early. Next couple of days went uneventfully. They were trying to find some clue but everything felt dead end. Sambhavita was working on finding anything to prove the scam going on and she was almost close to find one, that was the day they were about to go to a thrift book store to get some old volume of books with Sambhavita.
"Mujhe bhookh lag gayi sach main. Mujhe nai pata tha itna chalna padega." Kavya said as they walked back.
"Aur old books are aesthetic and all but I can't with the dust and smell of fungus. I definitely need a cleansing routine today. Mam? How do you have perfect skin without anything at all and you spend like hours in a dark and dusty library?" Anaya asked walking next to Sambhavita. "Just look at it. Kese marbal ki tarha chamakti hai inki skin." Sambhavita laughed.
