Alicia's point of view:
My phone vibrated loudly, displaying a new message from Vinny. I unlocked my phone and read the message.
Vinny: hey, I really need to talk to you! it's urgent! could you please meet me at the field later today?? around about 3ish?
Alicia: sure thing, i'll see you then (:
The day passed by quickly, I had a late brunch with my family, cleaned up my room a little bit and sorted through some old books, until soon three o'clock passed by. I made my way down to the field, Vinny was already there waiting for me.
"Hey," I said as I greeted her with a tight hug.
"Hey, thanks for coming," Vinny replied.
"It's no problem, it sounded pretty serious. What's up?" I asked. We were strolling across the field when Vinny stopped me.
"Alicia."
"Yes."
Vinny took a deep breath before speaking again. "Nina committed suicide."
"Holy shit! No way, are you serious!?" I replied back. My voice was loud and demanding. Hopefully I didn't sound rude to Vinny.
"Yeah it's terrible. I found her hanging from my bathroom roof with a rope tied around her neck last night," Vinny replied. She fiddled with her fingers and bit down on her already stubby nails.
"I didn't expect that at all! Oh this is horrible, another death and they're getting faster each time."
"Yeah," Vinny stopped short of her sentence and then continued, "but I found this note," she handed me a ripped and crumpled note. I unfolded it delicately and read the letter. It was a suicide letter.
"Wow, I didn't know she felt like that. How did we not notice she was going through this?" I said to Vinny. We stood facing one another and I handed the letter back to her.
"I don't know, I never would guess that she felt like that. I didn't think she could do something like that to herself. Taking your life, I don't know how she did it." Vinny dropped her head and folded and unfolded the letter several times until she spoke again.
"But I think this letter is some kind of code as well, I think I've figured something out."
I scrunched my face up, crinkling my nose. "What do you mean?" I asked her.
"Well," she began holding the letter so we could both view it. "Nina was amazing at spelling and grammar and she made many mistakes in this letter, simple ones too."
"And what does that tell us?" I asked. She ushered me to sit down with her on the ground, so I followed her request.
"Let's go through this letter together."To Vinny, Seth and Alicia,
I'm sorry that I will leave you in such a terrable time. After what has happened recently, talking my own life I'm sure will make things much worse, but this earth is just not my place. I've tried for so loing, but I never seem to fic in. Honestly, I'm sure withiut me here, things will be a lot easaer. I was niver guilty of killing anyone and all of my friends believings that I did, just made things a wholt lot worse. I know all of you guhs never really liked or trusted me thate much, but before I leave this morld, I want to say that hunging out with you guys was really enjorable for me. Now, as you can see I'm runding out of space to write, and also my time here is almest up. Death is just a corner away. I'm sorry to do this to you in such a hard time, but I don't think anyone of you guys will really care that I'm leaving. I just hope you now understand that I'm nor the murder and never was.
Bye guys, Nina xx"She spelled terrible as terrable. The 'a' shouldn't be there. That's a mistake." Vinny said and wrote the letter a at the bottom of the page.
"The same with taking, she spelt it as talking. Another mistake." Vinny then wrote the letter l next to the letter a at the bottom of the page.
"Long she spelt as loing." She wrote the letter i next to the collection of other letters. She continued working through the letter.
"Fit was spelt as fic. Without was spelt as withiut." Vinny continued adding the mistake letters to the bottom of the page. I watched intently.
"Easier was spelt as easaer. Never was spelt as niver. Believing was spelt as believings. Whole was spelt as wholt. Guys was spelt as guhs. That was spelt as thate. World was spelt as morld. Hanging was spelt as hunging. Enjoyable was spelt as enjorable. Running was spelt as runding. Almost was spelt as almest. And not was spelt as nor," Vinny wrote the last letter onto the bottom of the page and handed me the page. I read the letters. They spelled out four words. I bit my lip and looked up at Vinny who was now towering over me. She flung out a sharp knife and held it in front of her for defence.
"Is it true? Have I caught you finally!" She yelled at me.
I lowered my head to the ground and then jumped from where I was sitting and leapt onto Vinny, pushing her to the ground. I pressed my arm roughly and tightly against her throat, making her cough and splutter and crave for air.
I whipped the smile off her face and plastered it onto mine. "Yes," I replied.
The mistake letters had read:
