No no no no no. It's true then. I'm in a deal with Alastor. It sounds like my end of the bargain is steep.
"(y/n)!" Vaggie gets my attention back. "Who is your deal with? What is it?" She has both of my arms tightly in her hands.
"I..." What do I say?
"It's with me." Alastor arrives from the shadows next to me, arm around me with his hand resting on my far shoulder. I'm surprised he'd admit it. I'm so new to this, I don't know what I can and can't say. Alastor would though.
"No... why?!" Vaggie looks upset at Alastor as she takes her hands off me.
"She needed assistance with something that I was able to help with. In return she'll help me. That's all you need to know." Alastor gave very little information, but I guess technically he's not wrong.
"Wait, you already have a contract with Charlie." Vaggie states to Alastor, questioning him. That is a good point. He just explained to me that you could only be in one contract with someone.
"Well, sometimes there are exceptions to rules, right?" Alastor narrows his eyes at Vaggie. He seems annoyed at the questioning, and his answer is extremely vague. He seems good at giving answers without giving a lot of information. He'd be a great politician in this day and age.
"Now that I think about it, she's going to fulfill one of her obligations to me now." Alastor mentions in an energetic and happy tone as he twirls his staff. His mood sure changes fast.
I am?! I look up at Alastor. I don't know if he can see the concern in my face. It would be nice if he could clarify exactly what obligation! He just mentioned a few different scenarios earlier in my hotel room. Exactly what avenue are we going down?
"Don't hurt her!" It's surprising to see Vaggie threaten Alastor with such a dark demeanor.
"Oh, I don't plan to break her." Alastor stops twirling his staff. That didn't directly say he wouldn't hurt me, cleaver demon. "And even if I did. There wouldn't be anything you could do about it." He says confidently to Vaggie.
Alastor is much bolder today than before. Is it because I truly can't get out of this deal? He must know that's the case, no need to hide anymore.
Before I can think of anything else to say to Vaggie my surroundings are different. We're not in the hotel anymore. It looks like we're in a town, but a very dated town. The shops and streets remind me of things I've seen in history video reenactments of the older days.
The people in this town look a bit different. But this is what I should expect at this point. "Where are we?" I ask Alastor.
"Cannibal town!" He responds in a very excited voice.
"That's... comforting." I joke. "And why are we here?" I ask as I begin following him.
"You mentioned that you have a degree in music." Alastor says as he looks back at me.
"I did?" It must have been last night. "I do." I agree, still confused.
"I've been dying to hear some good jazz. Do you play or sing?" He asks as he opens a door to one of the buildings, holding it open to let me in first.
"Um, both. I usually don't like to sing in front of a crowd." I clarify. "I play a mean trumpet though." I throw it in as I walk into the building.
"Hm. I'd like to hear you sing." Alastor says as we look around.
It looks like an old-time bar. Maybe a saloon? I'm not sure what it would be called. There was quite a crowd inside, some at the tables and some at the bar. Of course. I said I don't want to sing in front of a crowd, so he wants me to sing.
