While he was sleeping with one eye open, Abel heard rustling and then footsteps.

The young woman who shared his room got up and walked towards the balcony.
He opened one cautious eye looking at her figure.

-Good evening Abel.

The voice of the young woman, usually soft and somewhat high-pitched, was this time low and velvety, like that of the Serena he had met during the banquet.

He stood up and went to meet her. He stood in front of her, giving her a smile.

-Good evening, witch.

Her eyes had regained a reddish tint and she gave him a smile worthy of the Chesire cat.

She turned fully towards him.

-What do you think of Serena? A sweet soul.. pure and innocent.

His smile disappeared and his expression became darker.

-From whom we do not hesitate to take away happiness. Do you think that was fair?
-Where are you going with this, said Abel, not very patient.

She smiles again

-You don't even have compassion for this woman?

She approached him, leaning slightly.

-You haven't stopped teasing her since you've known her. Yet you know how to differentiate us, it seems to me. It was funny to see Entouca.
-I'm not here to entertain you.

He approached Serena and placed his hand on her jaw. He held her with a little force forcing her to raise her head to look at him.
The witch didn't bat an eyelid.

-You risk leaving marks on his beautiful face...that would be a shame, don't you think?
-I could kill you here and now. That would be beneficial, don't you think? He said smiling at her.
-You won't. She said in a honeyed voice
-And why ? Abel replied in the same tone.

The witch ran Serena's thin hands over the wrist that held the woman's face.

-Because you know that the only person you will kill like that.. she whispered.. is Serena. My spirit will be freed and it will be enough for me to find another body among the inhabitants of your dear country.

She looked down on him and he tightened his grip on her jaw.

-Would you do the same thing if it was Serena? You don't seem quick to touch her.
-And what do you know about it? You've been talking for a while now as if you had complete knowledge. Stop your jokes.
-I am not joking .

She tapped his wrist to tell him to let go of her but he didn't do anything on the contrary. He even exuded a certain bloodlust that made the young woman's body instinctively shiver.

-You wouldn't hurt Serena. You saw it with your own eyes. Her sweetness and innocence..
-Innocence? Abel said cynically. So she called you?

The witch's gaze grew colder.

-She called me because she was desperate Abel. And you know it perfectly.

The air seemed freezing. It was already cold since they were in the north but still.
The atmosphere seemed to have become even colder than already.

-Serena... I saw these memories. Did you know she was fleeting?

An emotionless smile took place on the redhead's face.

-She has quite the temperament. She didn't let it happen. Once her sister died, she took care of a baby barely a year old alone without the help of servants who no longer considered her since her aunt's arrival. And yet she didn't give up. She fought alone at only 13 years old, can you imagine?
