Abel had not entered the carriage but rather got on a horse.
Serena had not left the carriage since their altercation with her face in her hands.

They returned to the duchy and were welcomed by Fiona and Aida. The latter quickly noticed the atmosphere and made themselves as discreet as possible.

Serena gave the two little ones a smile.

-Good evening how are you .. ?

Aida approached her aunt

-How are you Serena?

-Good, said Serena, just... I saw a battlefield and it's enough to turn your stomach.

She placed her hand on Aida's head and stroked her blonde hair.

-Can you ask Carda for some tea for me... to relax a little...

The little blonde nodded and Serena walked past her to her room.
Once there, she went to take a bath and get rid of all the dirt she could have.

A little later, while she was trying to calm down in her bath, she heard a knock.

-Lady Serena? Said Carda. I brought you some tea. Would you like my help to take your bath?

-No, Carda, thank you, Serena replied. You can leave the tea, I'll go out right away.

Carda complied and looked at the Duke who was standing not far from her with his arms crossed.
Carda spoke more softly.

-What happened..? she asked cautiously.

Abel thought he was going to break down again.

-What happened ? An idiot who tried to end these days is what happened Carda!

-Followed by a slap..

Carda watched as the Duke got even more angry. She didn't fear him. She was at the service of her mother and even helped her give birth to Abel.

She raised Abel from his early childhood until now and Abel considered her a second mother. Despite his turbulent and wild nature, she knew him as if he were her son.

-Duke... the day you came with the young Lady to the castle in the capital surprised me... even more when I saw his back and that of the little Lady who accompanied him.

Her gaze became more tender as she observed Abel.

-They seem to have escaped from hell but they are still very fragile and sensitive even if they don't show it.

Carda smiles

-I won't ask for the details... I have no business getting involved in someone else's married life, she said teasingly.

She was one of those who knew that their unions were purely out of interest but in a short time, Carda had become attached to both girls.

-Carda.. said Abel in a warning tone

Carda didn't seem at all impressed.

-Please Duke... be more... gentle with her please... she is not from the north and seems to carry a lot on her shoulders. She is a frail woman.. please Duke.. even if it is only a union of convenience.. there is no need to be on bad terms.

She finally bowed and left the room. At the same time, Serena came out of the bathroom and didn't even seem to notice Abel.

She sat down on the bed and her shoulders sagged.

Abel was aware that he had said unnecessary words and he already knew that what Carda had told him was true.

The witch had claimed that she had a fleeting personality but following the mistreatment she suffered she ended up crushing herself.

If she had dared to face him... wasn't it because she felt confident...?

Despite everything, the risk she took was reckless regardless of these principles.

Abel sighed before walking past her to the bathroom himself.
Serena didn't even notice him and took the tea that Carda had brought back to drink.

She calmed down little by little, sighing softly. She hadn't even drunk half of it before she put down her cup before lying down tired.

His eyes closed almost instantly and a sleep bordered by nightmares followed.
Although his dream started out well, it quickly turned into the worst thing Caiser had ever done in his life. An indelible injury that he did not inflict on her physically.

Abel took his time before coming out of the bathroom to find the young red-haired woman crying with her eyes closed. She kept moving and repeating something.

He approached and prepared to put his hand on her shoulder to wake her.

-My baby ..

He froze. What had he just heard?

-My baby.. no.. I beg you all but not that..

The tears rolled down onto the pillow as Abel watched.

His baby..? Has she ever been a mother?

He didn't know how to react to that. Serena continued to fuss and he finally woke her up.

-Serena! Serena wake up!

She was still fidgeting trying to loosen his grip on his hand.

-Serena!

Her eyes opened suddenly and she met those of Abel leaning towards She .
She screamed, moving away from him.

-What do you want..!

Abel looked at her in surprise before regaining his composure and standing up.

-You stirred in your sleep. I only woke you up.

Serena tried to calm down, sighing loudly.

-I see... she began in a small voice. Please excuse me..

She stood up using the blanket to hide.

He couldn't forget the words she had said. His baby ?
He ends up sighing and walking around the bed to lie on his side.

Serena, for her part, was still too upset by her nightmare and went to the balcony. She closed the doors walking to the edge breathing in the fresh air that this freezing night offered her.

His hands shook as the baby's cries reached his ears.

She couldn't even keep him alive. She couldn't even hold her child.
From the moment she gave birth, all she heard were these cries before her child was taken away.

She had cried and although she was extremely weak from childbirth, she kept begging Caiser and Julia to see her child to no avail.

One day Caiser got fed up with her crying and pulled her into a room to find a decomposing baby. He had killed his baby.

She didn't even know if it was a girl or a boy. She didn't know if she looked like him or not. She knew absolutely nothing about her child.

The only thing she knew was that today, this baby would normally be 5 years old.

Tears silently fell down her cheeks as she compressed all these emotions once again, like what she always did in the barony.
