Divisha was sitting on the sofa while who was to be hired as the maid was sitting on another sofa opposite to her.

"Aunty, Paani lijiye." Divisha said forwarding the glass, the lady looked at Divisha with a weird expression and took the glass. After drinking the water, she placed the glass on the table and sighed.
(Aunty, drink water.)

"Haa toh bolo madam, kitna paisa degi?" The lady asked with a grumpy expression.
(Now tell madam, how much salary will you give?)

"Ummm..... 20-25 hazar?" Divisha said after thinking for a while.
(Ummm..... 20-25 thousand.)

"Kya madam, kyu mazak karti hai. Itna toh pure Ghar ka kaam karne ka bhi nahi deta koi." That lady said with a fake laugh, while Divisha looked at her in disbelief.
(What mam, why are you joking. We don't get this much after doing the work of the whole house.)

"Aree Mai mazak nahi kar rahi aunty. 20 hazar chalega aapko?" The lady looked at her raising her eyebrows as she was not able to digest the amount.
(I am not kidding aunty. Are you okay with 20 thousand?)

"Madam dekho mai tumse paise jyada nahi legi, isliye 10 hazar me nakki karte hai."
(Madam look, I won't take more from you, so let's decide 10 thousand only.)

"Vaise aapka naam kya hai aunty?" Divisha asked
(By the way, what is your name?)

"Savitri." The lady said giving her her eye.

"Ab tumhara naam kon bataega?" Savitri said
(Now who will tell your name?)

"Divisha" She said with a smile.

"Dee-Vee-Sha? Deva re Deva! Mere se bola hi nahi jaega!" Savitri tried to pronounce her name.
(Dee-Vee-Sha? Ohh God! I can't say that.)

"Aunty Di-Vi-Sha!" Divisha corrected.

"Mai tere ko Divya bulaegi. Tere ko koi problem hai? Hai toh bol, mai jaati hai." Savitri said and was about to get up.
(I'll call you Divya. Do you have any problems? If you have then tell, I'll go.)

"Nahi nahi aunty aapko Jo mann kare bolo." Divisha said holding her hand making her sit again.
(No no aunty, call me whatever you want to.)

"Vaise aunty aapse ek sawal puchu aapko dikkat na ho toh?" Divisha asked, which Savitri gave a bored expression.
(By the way aunt, can I ask you a question if you don't have any problems?)

"Puch! Varna tujhe chen nahi milega." Savitri said while Divisha bit her lips at the insult.
(Ask! Or you won't be able to sit quietly.)

"Vo aapki Umar itni jyada hai fir aap kaam kyu kar rahe ho abhi?" Divisha asked hoping to not get a sarcastic answer.
(You are so old then why are you still working?)

"Kyu tere ko dikkat hai mere kaam karne se? Khana banane do madam. Huh!" Savitri spoke with venom in her voice and went towards the kitchen. Divisha sighed and went into her room.
(Why? Do you have any problem with me doing work? Let me cook madam. Huh!)

Today, Divisha took a leave from work and was staying home.

At the time of dinner

Divisha came outside of her room to have dinner. She served food for herself while Savitri was cleaning the kitchen.

"Aunty, aap bhi aao na." Divisha said to Savitri who looked at her as if she was an alien.
(Aunty, you also come.)

"Mai aapke saath khana kyu khaungi?" Savitri raised her eyebrows.
(Why will I eat with you?)

"Mai itna saara khana kaha kha paungi, aap bhi baith jao. Vaise bhi kaafi din se akele hi khati hu aaj aap bhi khalo." Divisha said and her voice cracked in the last sentence. Savitri didn't say anything and sat opposite her, serving food for herself.
(How will I be able to eat this much, you also take a seat. Anyway, I have been eating alone for a long time, so you can join me today.)

They were eating silently when Savitri spoke.

"Mere bete ne mujhe ghar se bahar nikal diya." Savitri spoke looking at her plate, Divisha looked at her but then she understood that it was the answer to her afternoon question.
(My son kicked me out of the house.)

"Tumhari jitni Umar ka hi hai mera beta. Bohot badi company me nokari karta hai. Uski kuch samay pehle hi shaadi ho gayi. Kafi dhyan rakha mera pehle toh. Fir mere bete ne bola ki ghar uske naam kardu mai bhi unki baato me aa gayi aur kar diya. Fir unka bartav badalne laga, uski biwi ne mujhe sunana shuru kar diya. Maine usse bola toh kehta ki 'aise hi bolegi vo, rehna hai raho varna chali jao'. Maine socha kuch din ki zindagi bachi hai, uske papa ka sath bhi chhut gaya aur mai akeli kaha jaungi toh maine kuch nahi bola." Savitri said and smiled sadly.
(My son, who's about your age, works for a big company and got married a while ago. Initially, he was very caring towards me, but then he asked me to put the house in his name, and I agreed, foolishly. After that, his behavior changed, and his wife started mistreating me. When I tried to talk to him, he'd just say, 'She's just talking like that, either stay with us or leave.' I figured, I don't have much time left, I've lost my husband, and I don't want to be alone, so I kept quiet.)

"Lekin ek din mai khana paka rahi thi toh mujhse ek kanch ka glass neeche gir gaya. Uski biwi aayi toh ek chhota sa tukda uske paer me lag gaya. Bas! Fir mere bete ne bohot chillaya mujh par aur ghar se dhakke maar ke bahar nikal diya. Fir mai dar-dar dhakke khati rahi. Fir mujhe kisi ne bola ki khana banane ka kaam shuru kardu. Tabse hi mai khana banati hu Gharo me." Savitri said with a sigh. Divisha was listening to her very carefully and at last she had tears in her eyes.
(But one day I was cooking and a glass of glass fell from my hands. His wife came inside and she stepped on a piece of glass. That's it! Then my son started yelling at me and threw me out of his house. Then I was drifting from one place to another. Then someone suggested that I start working as a cook and that's what I have been doing ever since.)

Divisha didn't have anything to say but then something clicked in her mind.

"Aunty, aap mere ghar mere ghar me rahoge?" Divisha questioned, her eyes held excitement.
(Aunty, will you stay in my house?)

"Madam, tum pagal ho gayi hai kya? Mai kyu tumhare ghar me rahegi?" Savitri said with a laugh.

"Aree par kyu nahi, aap mere saath iss Ghar me rehna aur mere permanent cook ban jao. Mai aapki salary bhi double kar dungi aur aur...." Divisha said like a child but savitri interrupted.
(But why not, you can stay with me in this house and become my permanent cook. I'll double your salary and and....)

"Madam ek baar kisi aur ke ghar me reh ke dekh chuki hu. Ab nahi reh paungi." Savitri said, pain clearly visible in her tone.
(Madam I have already experienced living in someone else's house once, and I can't do it again.)

"Nahi mai aisa kabhi nahi karungi. Agar mai karu na toh aap mujhe chata maar dena. Please mere saath reh lo. Akeli rehte-rehte thak gayi hu, na koi baat karne ke liye hai, na koi hasne aur gussa karne ke liye. Din bhar bahar se thak kar aati hu aur fir iss Khali Ghar ki dekh kar aur thak jati hu. Agar aap saath rahoge toh achha lagega. " Divisha said holding her hands.
(I promise I won't do that. If I do, feel free to scold me. Please stay with me, I'm exhausted from living alone. I have no one to share my thoughts, laughter, or frustrations with. I'm drained from being out all day and coming home to this empty house just makes me more tired. It would be great if you could stay with me.)

"Lekin aapko nahi rehna toh koi baat nahi." Divisha left her hands and stood up to put dishes.
(But if you don't want to stay, then it's okay.)

"Theek hai! Mai apna samaan kal le aaungi" Savitri said after taking a deep breath. Divisha looked at her and then started jumping in happiness. Savitri smiled looking at her.
(Okay! I'll bring my belongings tomorrow.)
