When Viviana holds her hands up to block the attack, everything stops. It's like time froze. And it in fact, did. Time was frozen and Viv was the only one who was not completely frozen in place.
She opens her eyes and looks around at all the people who were frozen in time. She steps around them inspecting what might have caused everything to stop. But it seems that all that she is the only person who is able to move. This is shocking to her. She can't believe that any of this. Not just the time freezing, but everything else too. Meeting Prince Cole, coming to the castle, finding a dragon, fighting the people with swords. But Viviana realizes that there is no time to dwell on this because at any moment everything could start up again. She has done do something, and she has to do it fast.
She goes over to the man who was able to move things without touching them. Once she makes sure that he isn't moving, and looks for any way to identify who he is. She doesn't find anything that gives her any indication about who he possibly could be. She takes her sword and with a swift movement, tries to pierce through his chest. But when she does so, nothing happens. She tries once more, but just as before, nothing happens. She doesn't even break through his flesh.
While Viviana wonders how this could be possible, time starts again, but slower than it should be. It's as if the world is in slow motion. But now that means that everything that was shot from the man from before, is still going. She has to stop it. She knocks the stuff out of the air and tries to hit the man again. Unfortunately she can't hurt him, but he notices her now and slowly but surely tries to grab her.
She moved out of the way just as time goes back to it's normal normal speed. She dodged his grasp and runs back over towards where Cole is standing questioning what happened. He is so confused by everything that he doesn't notice another guy sneaking up behind him. Luckily for Cole, Viviana does notice this and slices the guy's head off.
Everyone seems genuinely shocked by this. They're all starting at her. Of course they are, she just stabbed someone. But what else was she supposed to do? She was protecting Cole. Just like he was protecting her.
The other man takes this as an opportunity to attack them again. He sends things flying at them and nobody knew he was doing it. Except for the king. He saw it all. And he did what he thought he was supposed to. Which was defend his son.
King Kendrick pushes the two out of the way getting he himself killed in the process. Cole looks horrified at the place his father was. He bends over his dead body. When he stands back up he looks at the man who just killed his father. The man looks at Cole as if to say, "you're next kid,".
Viviana's heart is pounding out of her chest. She is witnessing the most painful moment in Cole's life so far and he doesn't even cry. He just looks at the man and clearly wants to get revenge. Why wouldn't he? This was the most awful thing that could happen to a child. And that's what they are: children. They shouldn't be doing all this. They should be letting the adults do it. That is what just happened though. Cole's father gave his life to protect them. Maybe nobody should be doing this. War should exist. Everyone knows that but it just kind of happens. You can't control it.
Nothing is happening at the moment. The whole world seems to be on a collective pause. As they should be. Their king just died. Now the crown prince will have to rule. Cole. But not until this is over. Not until they can defeat this man who seems to be indestructible.
At that moment the man decides to walk out. As if he completely finished his job.
That's odd. Viviana thinks. How can he just leave? But it's not important right now. All that is important is helping Cole who is sitting on the ground next to his father holding the crown he was wearing when he died.
Viviana sits down next to him. She leans her head on his shoulder and he reaches his arm around her. They sit there for a while. A moment of silence for the king. Viviana realizes that this is just the beginning of a long war. She's in for it all and can't back out anymore.
After a while Cole takes his arm away and stands up as does Viv. They can't sit in here forever. He starts pacing around the room. She doesn't know what to do to help him, so she sits on the bench and looks at the ground wondering if what happened really did happen.
