Kim Rok Soo and Lee Eun-ha were strangers.

He did not know when exactly it was—the moment they first met in a new identity, the moment the God of Death told him what his mother was hiding after all the time, or from the moment he knew she would never come back among the whispers from those relatives talking about when the Count should find another spouse—that he found the distance between them was that far. Mom, in Cale's memory, was always shining as her bewitching smile brightened up the place that made his father head over heels for her. Yet he had always wondered if they actually got to know her well.

Brushing his little fingers in his lock, that one thing reminded him how resemblant they were in the middle of the night to recall the feeling when mom's curls wrapped around his fingers was how he distracted himself from the voices that rang out from nowhere in his room. However, Cale had never found that secure feeling again, so he stopped and waited for Ron's patting instead. Just closing his eyes tight, whether Ron knew he was asleep or not, Ron would not say a word. Gentle pats through the gloves with barely any temperature to be felt somehow calm him down.

Distraction and distance

He did not know if that was what people call "move on" or not, but the more he knew as he grew, the more distraction and distance he created to finish the play. He was not a suitable piece in the family picture. He was not a perfect choice for the heir. He was not a good son. Raising the glass among those rumors that, as annoyed as the tasteless tea cup in the morning, Cale was good at building up those images for the play that he wrote. But in the end, he was the only one who stayed when the others advanced.
