It was late November 1996. The night was cold and frosty. Harry, Ron and Hermione sat in the Gryffindor common room, lounging comfily on the sofas. Everyone else has gone up to bed and it was just the three of them in the room. Hermione was reading a book, sat curled up on the edge of the sofa beside Ron, who was lazily sat with his his feet up on the coffee table in front. And Harry was sloppily slumped into the arm chair to the left of them.

Normally, Ron would be ranting to Harry about something random, like Quidditch or the most recent detention Professor Snape had just given him. And Harry would respond with subtle nods and agreeing words. But tonight, something else was on Harry's mind. And he didn't even hear Ron's words as he ranted on about god knows what. And it was actually Hermione who noticed this as she looked up from her reading book.

"Are you alright Harry?" She asked, and Ron stopped talking, noticing no one was listening to him. Harry looked up at his friends, both of them giving him a questioning look.

"Yeah," Harry replied after a few seconds of thinking, "yeah, just..thinking."

A couple seconds of silence went by before Hermione spoke again. "About..?" She asked and Harry sighed, looking at the coffee table in front of him in a daze. He opened his mouth as if he was about to speak, but instead, took a deep breath and then looked up at her.

"Who was that Hufflepuff girl you were talking to earlier?" He asked, "the Y/H/C one?"

Hermione became curious and closed her book. "The girl I was talking to at lunch?" She asked, with a suspicious look on her face, "that's Y/N
Y/L/N. She's in my Arithmancy class, why?"

Harry sat back and shook his head, gesturing with his hand "no reason.."
He looked back down at the coffee table, hoping his friends would think nothing of it, however, they had now become even more intrigued than they were previously.

"Are you sure?" Ron asked with a smirk and Harry tried to play it off.
"I was just curious," Harry chuckled slightly, but Hermione and Ron weren't buying it. They knew there was more to it. And Hermione had an idea.
"Do you want me to introduce you to her?" She asked with a smirk and Harry looked back up.
"Really? Would you?" He asked, the side of his mouth tilting up a little.
"Yeah of course," Hermione smiled, "if you tell us the real reason you wanna meet her."
Harry sighed and shrugged, "I thought she was pretty.."

"Awe," Ron mocked and Harry grabbed the pillow from behind him, throwing it at his face, making Hermione laugh, which then cause Harry to join in, and soon Ron.

The next morning at breakfast, Hermione did as she'd promised. Before the boys came down for food, she arrived at the Great Hall, and immediately scanned the room for her you. You were a gentle girl. You were kind and loved helping others. You was one of Hermiones very good friends, but she never introduced you to Ron and Harry because she didn't think either of them wanted to know any of her other friends. However, after last night, she had come to believe Harry had a little soft spot for you. And I mean why wouldn't he? You were beautiful, diligent, friendly and not only had a kind heart, but had a kind smile too.

Hermione saw you alone at the Hufflepuff table, reading a book quietly. She sat down opposite you with a smile and spoke.

"Hey Y/N," she beamed and you looked up from the pages of your book.

"Oh, hey Hermione," you smiled, "what's up?"

Hermione grabbed a glass and poured herself a cup of orange juice while she spoke, "well, I was wondering...if you wanted to come and sit with me and friends for breakfast today? I mean you don't have to if you don't want to, but I really want you to meet them, I think they'll love you."

Your eyes widened and you chuckled nervously. Meeting new people wasn't the main itinerary on your bucket list. You was a quiet girl, and restricted yourself to having only a few friends. You weren't a fan of big crowds, and often felt quite timid and threatened when surrounded by lots of people. But you were close with Hermione and trusted her with not forcing you into a situation that would make you feel uncomfortable. So that's why you agreed.

"Okay, sure," you smiled and Hermione grinned.
"Great!" And this was timed just right as she noticed the boys slowly walking into the Great Hall. Harry was fidgeting like crazy, obviously nervous. "Oh that's them," Hermione pointed and you turned around and watched the two boys as they walked into the Great Hall and sat down at the Gryffindor table opposite each other. One was a rather tall Ginger boy, with scruffy long hair and freckles. The other boy was a little shorter than the ginger boy, but still tall, and had fluffy dark hair, and round black glasses. You recognised him as Harry Potter, the boy who lived, but you had no idea who the ginger boy was.

"Come on," Hermione beckoned you to follow her and the two of you stood up, making your way over to the boys.

You could feel your heart beat quickening in your chest as you approached them. In fact, as they got closer and closer, it got worse and worse, until it felt like your heart was in your throat.

"Guys," Hermione announced herself as you both finally arrived at the table. Ron looked up and Harry turned around, his eyes immediately scanning you up and down, before landing on your bright Y/E/C eyes. Harry began to panic, not knowing what to do or say. All he could think was that you was even more beautiful up close.

"This is my friend Y/N," Hermione introduced you, gesturing over to where you were stood,
"Y/N, these are my friends."

Hermione gestures to each of them as she said their names, "that's Ron Weasley, and this is Harry Potter." Ron waved with a smile, his mouth already full of cereal and Harry smiled when you looked down at him. "It's nice to meet you," he grinned and you smiled sweetly. "It's nice to meet you too," you beamed, "both of you."

Hermione gestured for you to sit down, next to Harry of all people (she knew exactly what she was doing) before sitting down opposite you, next to Ron. Harry shuffled uncomfortably, too nervous to speak while you two piled out your breakfasts. Hermione buttered herself some crumpets and you spread some cream cheese onto a plain bagel and then placed some avocado slices on top. Harry had so much he wanted to say, to talk about, but he was so nervous that all of his questions and statements got mixed up in his head.

He took a deep breath trying to calm down. What was wrong with him? He wasn't like this when Hermione first started talking to him. Or even when he met Ron's sister Ginny. But for some reason, you made him squirmy, and nervous. He couldn't get his words out, and constantly caught himself glancing over at you, about to say something, but decided against it and looked back down at his food.

Hermione began a conversation with you, and Harry continued to glance over at you every few seconds, wanting to speak to you, but not knowing what to say first. However, as he kept glancing at you, he noticed she had a small bit of cream cheese on the side of her mouth, causing him to speak up.

He cleared his throat, "um..you have a bit of-" Harry pointed to the side of his mouth as he stuttered and you chuckled, going a little red. You licked the side of your mouth and then looking up at him. "Gone?" You asked with a little smile and he chuckled, shaking his head.
"Here," Harry chuckled and reached out, carefully wiping the cream cheese away with his thumb.
"Thanks," you giggled before turning back to your food. Harry laughed and bit into his croissant.

Both Hermione and Ron gave each other a smug look as the four of you continued eating breakfast together.
