"She's pretty pissed," Tommy said. "I mean, she is missing out," Mia said. "What do you mean," Tommy asked (is it just me, or is he a bit uhm, you know, ignorant? Mia obviously loves him). "She was one of the luckiest women on planet Earth and she threw it all away within a few hours." "How so?" "She just decided to up and leave you of all people. I could never even imagine how she could do that." Tommy smiled, "I'm pretty lucky, too." "How?" "Because I have the best partner and friend I could ever ask for." Mia smiled, "Thanks." It was about 12:30 at night when the conversation started to come to an end. "You know, I should probably head home, it's getting late and we have work tomorrow," Mia said and stood up too quickly and immediately sat back down on the couch. "I don't think you should be driving tonight." "I'll be fine," Mia said, "I'm not drunk." "Maybe not, but I think you are a little buzzed, it's not safe for you to drive. I'm going to get my spare bedroom set up for you." "What are people going to think at work though?" "What do you mean?" "They're going to be suspicious because they still think you're with Emily." "Then I'll tell them." "Tell them what?" "The truth, she walked out on me and I asked my best friend to come over because I needed emotional support." "Well of course I did, you've always been there for me, it's about time I get to be here for you" "Thank you so much for that I'm serious, I don't know what I'd do without you." Mia smiled, "Thanks." "I'm just being honest." "Hey, that's my line!" "Hah." Then, Mia and Tommy yawned at the same time. "Haha, you know what that means," Mia asked. "We're both tired," Tommy guessed. "Ha! No, it means we have good compatibility." "I already knew that," Tommy said. Mia smiled and said, "I know we do, partner." She then stood up and stretched her arms above her head. "I should get some sleep. Where's the spare bedroom?" Tommy led her to the guest room and made sure she had everything she needed before saying goodnight. As he walked back to his own bedroom, he couldn't help but think about what Mia had said earlier about Emily. He knew deep down that she was right, and he couldn't help but wonder if he had made a mistake in marrying Emily. But for now, he pushed those thoughts aside and focused on getting some rest. As he lay in bed, he couldn't help but feel grateful for having such a good friend in Mia.
The next morning at work, Tommy and Mia walked in together. They could hear people whispering about them and Mia gave Tommy a look and whispered, "See, I told you." Tommy rolled his eyes and said, "Just ignore them." "But they're gonna think..." "They can think whatever they want, at least we know the truth and soon, they will, too."
