Nashville, 2022.
"Life is formidable, Avery!" My best friend, Nicole shouted at me from the distance. She was dancing with a random man she found in the club. I was sitting at the bar as I took another sip of my tequilla. I fucking hated clubs, say less actually being in one. I can't believe I let Nicole convince me to come tot his gathering full of graduated students that are desperate to find someone to fuck for overnight. Being in a club makes me feel so desperate, just like all the pathetic people in here. Nicole waved at me as she was practically giving that guy a lapdance on the dancefloor. I rolled my eyes as I turned around, my back now facing her. I counted to three.
One...
Two...
Three...
"Av, girl what's wrong? I thought you liked this song?" She yanked my arm, now trying to get me off the bar chair. I turned around to look at her as Meddle About by Chase Atlantics blasted through the giant speakers hanging on the walls. I sighed as I yanked my head back. "Fine, let's dance." I stood up from the bar chair, causing Nicole to squeeze my hands as she squeeled in excitement. She dragged me through the crowd of drunk teenagers that just turned eighteen. I hated desperate people, much less desperate teenagers.
The guy Nicole has been dancing with walked up to us as soon as Nicole started to dance while holding my hands. I flicked my gaze over to the guy, then back to Nicole. Her face was turning into a tomato as she couldn't keep her gaze of him. I rolled my eyes. Nicole looked at me with a confused look before she started to dance again. "Why are you so fucking moody?" Her tone was a bit harsher than before. She raked her hand through her copper blonde hair as she turned her attention back to the ugly fuck at the other side of the dance floor. "Nicole, he's a solid two out of ten." I yelled, trying to make her hear me while the music was still blasting through the entire club. She gave me a irritated look. "He's super cute. I'd rather be with him instead of you. You're acting so moody today, jeez." She walked off without saying another word, causing me to me on my own now. I immediately walked back to my seat at the bar, completely unbothered by the fact my best friend just called me boring and left me alone in this club full of desperate people.
I ordered another tequilla. The third one today. I was probably gonna be drunk at the end of the night if Nicole couldn't keep her horny ass away from all the men in this club. The bartender handed me my tequilla as he playfully winked at me. I gave him a forced smile back as I pulled my wallet out of my purse and roamed around for a dollar bill.
The man waved my money off as he refused to take it. "It's on the house today, consider it a 'wanna go out with me?'" He smiled at me with the most adorable smile I've ever seen. Yet, I was immune for men their charms. They were just manipulative tricks to get someone to like them, make them go over to their place and fuck them until they couldn't walk straight anymore. I'm not a whore, so I'd rather not be living in the same shit show as Nicole wants to live in.
I gently brushed his offer off by giving him one of my best smiled, now stirring my tequilla with my straw. "Oh no thank you. I'm not into dating lately." I looked away, trying to avoid the subject. The bartender wasn't gonna give up. He snapped his fingers, trying to get back my attention. This caused me to get pissed. "What the hell? I'm not a dog." I gave him a irritated look, which caused a nasty smirk to form on his face. "Feisty, I like it." He got off his black plastic gloves as he got closer to me, now hanging over the counter as he whispered something in my ear.
