y/ns POV:

I walked along the street with donna as she simped over her boyfriend finney. last year he and five other boys got kidnapped but luckily they escaped before any severe harm was done.

finney is my best friend. he comes to me and robin for everything, we're all a little trio. but ever since they escaped they act different.

They sometimes zone out or I catch them staring at the floor as a few tears come out their eyes, they've become more wary of things too. so have all the other. not to spread rumours but I heard that the youngest guy there was eleven.

I didn't really know the rest of them that well, I only knew vance for his fights and his nickname "pinball vance". and I only knew bruce because he'd be playing a baseball match against finney sometimes and i'd go to watch and cheer him on with gwen. and lastly billy, everyone knew him since he was our local newspaper boy.

but anyways. back to me and donna, she was talking about how finney doesn't act as his usual happy self anymore "that's because he witnessed trauma that he'll remember for the rest of his life" I thought in my head.

"I just wish that he looks at me like he used to. y'know?" Donna said as she pulled her sunglasses to the top of her head. I nodded with an awkward smile on my face.

"maybe I could like. make him forget. I could buy him stuff and treat him and that might put his mind off it for a while" she suggested.

"You're seriously gonna buy him stuff so he forgets that he was kidnaps so he acts the way he used to?" I asked as I squinted my eyes at her.

she just simply nodded and walked over to finney as she gave him a hug. he hugged her back but it wasn't like the comforting finney hugs we both miss.

over the next few months. Donna would buy Finney presents, chocolates. she'd leave notes in his locker and everything.

right now, we were currently talking in the bathroom. "So I think he's starting to act like how he did before. I mean...we're not fully there yet but-".

I interrupted her, "Donna, whatever you're doing...it's not gonna change Finney, he is traumatised...forever!." I said. I was tired of her trying to change someone who was obviously not going to.

"But-" she started but I interrupted again "you take the boy out of the basement, not the basement out of the boy!" I yelled.

she fell silent as her eyes welled with tears. she looked down as she held tightly onto her books. she sped walked out of the bathrooms and I looked down in guilt. "maybe I shouldn't have been so harsh on her" I thought to myself.
