Reborn in The Mummy

Chapter Three: Hamunaptra

We arrived at a tribe village shortly before dawn, and the woman of the village offered us special attire to travel across the desert while Rick and Jonathan were working on getting us transport.
We had been dressed in traditional female clothing, Evelyn in black with silver accents, and myself in white with gold accents.
I asked for another set each which thry happily gave when I gifted them food that I could not take into the desert with us then I had Evelyn walk out on her own and when I peaked out I saw Rick was captivated by her which I was thankful.
I then took an extra shall and put it cover my head and covered my chest to hid myself, I did not really show much skin ever because of the time and because I was determined to keep myself protected from the sun.
After Rick picked up camels that I loved, we started our journey to Hamunaptra, which was long in the deep desert.
It was during one of these cold nights that it was just Rick and myself awake, and we saw the Medaji looking at us as we went along when I was brought out of my thoughts.

"It has been years, Regina."

"It has."

"We had a good night, then you just left."

"We did, but it was one night, Rick."

"I know... I thought.."

"I am sorry if you thought it could be more, but I did say one night."

"I know."

"Besides, you like my sister, and she likes you. I support that"

I said to Rick with a smile and I could just make out a light blush under the moon light making me chuckle before securing myself on the camal then falling asleep with my self made neck pillow trying to ignore a snoring warden.
It was a few days later that Rick stopped us, and we waiting Then we heard noises and saw the group of Americans with Beni as their guide, but
Evelyn smiled at them.

"Good morning, my friend."

They all mumbled good mornings at my glare because I knew a few of these men from a trip to South America two years ago, got the treasure but idiots set of a trap when Daniels spoke and Beni tried not to roll his eyes.

"What the hell are we doing?"

"Patience, my good barat'm. Patience."

"Remember our bet, O'Connell? The first one is to the city, 500 cash bucks."

"A hundred of them bucks is yours if you help us win that bet."

"Oh, my pleasure."

I could hear the sarcasm in his voice and giggled a little, making him and the other smile before he looked at Rick.

"Hey, O'Connell. Nice camel."

I could see arica ignoring Beni but was looking right ahead, getting ready.

"Get ready for it."

"For what? -"

"We're about to be shown the way."

"Will you look at that? Can you believe it?"

"Hamunaptra."

"Here we go again."

We all started racing after that, me and Evelyn stuck together when we saw Beni slapping Rick with a horse whip but Rick finally ha ing enough snatches it and starts hitting Beni making him fall from his horse before Rock shouts.

"So long, Beni!"

"That serves you right."

Evelyn says with sass, but we both pick up the pace and outrun all the men and their horses. I can hear Jonathan shouting.

"Go, Evy! Go, Nia! Go!"

We laughed as we entered and feeling great. we won 500 dollars out of it.
In the distance, three men watched as the woman won the race when Henderson spoke.

"Do they know something we don't?"

"They are led by a woman. What does a woman know?"

"One of those women is Regina Carnahan, I would not put it past her finding treasure before us."

One of the Americans said to Allan and Henderson before ridding off, not knowing what the future might hold.
We moved and set up came near the statue of Anbuis, then started our work, I don't think I have ever seen Evelyn look so excited, we head walking through and found a large room as we walked in I heard a whisper 'Anku-sem'
Before it vanished but I felt the caress of the name against my ear but tried to ignore it.

"That's a statue of Anubis. Its legs go deep underground. According to Bembridge scholars, that's where we'll find a secret compartment containing the Golden Book of Amun-Ra."

Evelyn was talking a mile a minute  before she started to order Jonathan like a drill sergeant.

"Jonathan, you're meant to catch the sun with that."

"So, what are these old mirrors for? "

"Ancient mirrors. It's an ancient Egyptian trick. You'll see."

She said with a smile, and then I noticed a nervous Rick looking at Evelyn before clearing his throat.

"Here, this for you. Go ahead. It's something I borrowed off our American brethren.
I thought you might like it, you might need it for when you're..."

He said nervously, but she looked touched by the gift from Rick, I had to hold out, not laughing at him, but he caught the Warden looking at him amused.

"Yeah? What are you looking at?"

"Hey, look for bugs. I hate bugs."

He said, walking away but not too far.

"Do you realize we're standing inside a room no one has entered in over 3,000 years?"

I said with a smile because I loved history and not matter the site or culture I loved to discover new things, this was no different, I saw Evelyn smile at me but nodded her head in agreement.

"What is that God-awful stench?"

"And then there was light?"

"Hey, that is a neat trick."

"Oh, my God. It's a sah-netjer, look Nia this is amazing."

" A What?"

"A preparation room."

"Preparation for what?"

"For entering the afterlife."

Me and Evelyn said at the same time but smiled at each other looking at the stone walls, I took out my sketch paid and started to draw and take notes before I would go and get my camera to take pictures to start documenting it all.

"Mummies, my good son. This is where they made the mummies"

I could see Rick a little grosses out and decided not to touch anything, making me chuckle before taking a torch, then lighting it.
